About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the virtual summer internship programme. EY should be commended for continuing with the internship program despite the uncertain conditions created due to COVID-19. The program itself was very engaging and I was able to learn about stuff that I would normally have not come through or thought about in the normal course of my daily life. I also enjoyed the interactive panel sessions and having some of my questions answered regarding the company.
From the start of the internship we we were introduced to various individuals within the organisation who took their valuable time out to educate us on the organisation. We were also encouraged to ask questions and told from the beginning that there were no "stupid questions." We were also provided insights regarding how much EY deeply values its employees through various programs it runs and were provied first hand experience with regards to some programs.
I personally received a lot of support during this internship. The panel sessions were especially informative as they shed light on various things with regards to our prospective future with the company nad our service lines. The ones that I found the most informative were the ones regarding professional qualifications and the one with EY employees in the graduate scheme. Help was also always available immediately with regards to problems regarding joining in virtual meetings and live events.
The skills I developed with regards to presentation skills will greatly allow me to enhance my ability to deliver presentations in my third year of university. We were also provided constructive feedback from a partner and senior manager about the presentation we gave. the presentation about time management will also help be in better managing my time. The session relating to mental health was also informative as it highlighted measures to take to improve our mental health.
The Company
The internship was well structured and the student recruitment team should be duly credited for this. I would like to especially thank [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]. We were provided with the agenda for the next day at the end of each day which helped in better planning and researching about some of the topics. The virtual program also had inbuilt breaks which assisted in collecting our thoughts after all the information was delivered to us.
The general atmosphere was really engaging and lively. As mentioned above, we were were constantly encouraged to participate and provide feedback to the recruitment team which made me feel valued. I also met some great individuals from all over UK and was able to work with them to prepare a presentation and enhance my learning. The people in the student recruitment team made me feel very welcomed and valued throughout the entire virtual internship week.
Employees at all levels from partners to trainees dedicated their time and took out time out of their busy schedules to tell us about the company and its various programs. In terms of personal training and development we were given seminars on a variety of topics from presentation skills to mental health. The presentation skills seminar was especially useful because it helped me introspect and understand what my weak areas are in terms of presentation.
We participated in panel discussions in which employees within the company helped in painting a picture of how our life at EY would look like. We were also allowed to ask questions and this allowed to clear a lot of my misunderstandings I had regarding the area of professional qualifications. Our 'buddies', who were close to our age were able to tell us how their life looks like in terms of work life balance and flexible working.
from the start of the virtual experience we were told about what EY values as a company. The company places a strong emphasis on diversity and has ambitious targets with regards to this. The culture which I understood from engaging is one of an open door policy. People are encouraged to ask questions and told from the beginning that there are no stupid questions. The company also place emphasis on development of human capital by providing access to resources such as Udemy.

We were introduced to employees at different levels within the organization. We had a chance to meet everyone from partners to trainees. The employees were also really approachable and with regards to my personal experience I was able to expand my linkedin profile rapidly by connecting with these individuals within the organization. We were also put into groups for the purposes of giving a presentation which helped in meeting my future colleagues and making new friends.
The networking opportunities were amazing and allowed us students to build on and expand our networks. Throughout the program we met individuals from all over the UK and from different positions who were more than happy to answer all our questions. Due to it being a virtual experience there was limited chance of social events but the student recruitment team made their best effort by organizing an interactive quiz and group presentations which helped in meeting future colleagues.
We were told about EY foundation which carries out a variety of programs throughout the year such as assisting students and other people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Employees can sign up to this program and engage in various activities. There are also programs available for personal development for employees. Individuals can also sign up to EY ambassadors and participate in activities with regards to recruitment and highlighting EY programs at different places such as universities and schools.
I would definitely recommend this program to my friends. It allows us students to understand how a big firm such as EY operates. It is also a great experience it terms of networking and personal development. It allows individuals to improve on their presentation and team skills. These skills will also assist the students in terms of their university projects. We are also taught the value of time management skills and better allocation of our resources.
