    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I did enjoy the programme a lot. It was definitely an interesting experience and good to get insight into the company as well as the specific job role. I enjoyed that there were regular breaks as working from home and in a laptop all day can be tedious and painful otherwise. The experience was enjoyable due to the ease with which you could follow it as the staff made which links to use extremely clear and it was super organised.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued. At all stages speakers were happy to answer questions and I connected with many of them on LinkedIn afterwards, which was something many of the speakers offered. My direct manager had been in frequent contact with me and arranged calls to check in with how I was finding it which was useful but mainly was nice to feel that you were valued and wanted in the team - loved the vibe!

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • There were not that many situations in which we really needed guidance or support as a lot of the content was just talks. However, for the case study we received feedback after presenting and also were given a mentor each who we worked with on two days. This was good to not only help us prepare but give us confidence in what we had written, he helped direct out presentation and giv industry specific help.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Personally I’m not so sure what we learnt with be that useful for my degree studies, but that’s because the internship was more to do with EY as a whole rather than a specific degree usbject. We were taught about time management and presentation skills amongst other things which is of course very useful in all walks of life, including for a degree subject. It definitely gave a night insight into a future career at EY.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • Fantastic structure. Very clear agenda with links displayed clearly and emailed round. Also regular reminders of what to log on to at what time which helped us to not miss out and was such an important part of the experience as it enabled us to focus on content rather tha;worry about where we were. Maybe could be improved by giving the weeks agenda in advance but that would be my only peace of feedback in all honesty

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • Really nice The people seemed genuine and pleasant Not as exciting and thrilling as some companies or job roles,it did feel a bit sleepy at times but there are lots of worse situations to be in so overall this isn’t an issue. Majority of interns on there were super lovely and helpful although a select few seemed to think they were better than everyone else - I think this will be the case anywhere you go though

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Difficult to say given the experience was only a week long and was online. However, feedback was provided at all stages to benefit us. Could have done with greater individual or detailed feedback after presentation as we did out a lot of effort into it to only then receive one line of feedback, it is definitely a difficult question to answer given the current circumstances and I think would have bene different if not virtual

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Not that much unfortunately, once again I think it’s because of COVID, only having a week internship meant it was hard to get into any actual real work and we focused on generic talks which was a shame, also when we ha stalks in mentors it may have been nice to be paired with a mentor from your own service line or office which I sadly didn’t get.however I 5hink this is only because of COVID

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It was nice to meet many people and see how firiendoy the atmosphere was however it was hard as obviously we couldn’t go into the office and didn’t get the opportunity to jump on to any real work calls - felt more like an insight scheme than an internship which is still nice. Lots of info about company culture and ethos but this isn’t as authentic as really exoeriencimg it which is a limitation in my opinion.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I’m unsure in whether to continue this job in the future but maybe that’s more to do with me than the company. They gave us lots of chance to task to people doing the grad scheme which was useful, but I think it really depends on personal experience which is not something we could attain from just a week of ritual calls. This is a shame but it’s not really their fault due to covid.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I haven’t been paid yet but we’re told we would be paid on salary of £18800 pa so roughly £365 for the week which seems like a great deal given what we were actually asked To do (which wasn’t a lot). No reimbursement was necessary as it was all online and I believe they paid for us to have a dbs check done which is always a positive, no complaint son this front in my opinion

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I connected with my mentor and some of the people who gave talks which was really nice. However no opportunity for actual networking was given!unlike with the bright network internships where you could literally almost speed date people as a way of networking, if they had done that with current people on the grad scheme an dinterns I would have loved it but that may have been difficult to set up. Given the situation they did well.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • N/ a

    2/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes there was lots of discussion about 5e social responsibility days in which staff can do team building or charity work. I enjoyed hearing about this and think it’s really nice, once again I didn’t get to discuss this with anyone from my office but was nice to hear thta in some offices they do pizza night or drinks on a Friday after work which seems like a friendly family atmosphere which I de8nitely think is a plus

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • Yes definitely. It could have definitely been more informative but having said that it was enjoyable and relaxed and well paid given how little work we had to do. There was clearly lots of effort out into it and I really value how hard everyone worked for it. EY is a huge and well respected company so irrespective it’s great to have internship experience and I would definitely recommend to anyone - it was great.
