About You
I really enjoyed the virtual internship experience as I found it very insightful and a great opportunity considering many of the other companies did not provide an internship experience due to Covid-19. It gave the chance to speak to employees from EY and meet other interns that I may be working with in the future. The information provided was also very useful and will give a competitive advantage in the future. Overall it was a great experience.
I felt extremely valued as every employee that dealt with or spoke to us were professional and helpful. It came across that they were enjoying the experience as much as the interns were and this allowed us to feel valued and appreciated. There was constant communication between those running the virtual programme and the interns and there was always time for questions. I also appreciated the feedback on the presentation and felt valued as they took the time to do this.
I felt extremely guided through the virtual internship due to many different employees and those running the virtual internship taking time out of their day to ensure we knew everything that we wanted to. Every talk or learning development presentation that we participated in gave a chance for questions and these were always answered quickly and to the best of the speakers ability. This was extremely helpful and made the process more enjoyable and successful.
I learned so many different skills and information from this virtual internship and they will benefit my career in many different ways. Firstly, the presentation skills talk will be useful in all parts of life and this is a skill that must be mastered. Furthermore, the meditation and well-being talks were also very useful as they will allow me to get through any periods that may be stressful in future studies or jobs. The information given will also be beneficial for a career in EY as I know a lot more about the values and what they stand for.
The Company
The schedule for the virtual internship experience was very jam-packed which allowed us to get the most out of the week as we could. This maximised our learning and allowed the internship to flow smoothly. There were some technical issues but this is of no fault to EY and is to be expected during the current times. Overall, the internship programme was very well structured and everything included allowed it to be a great success.
The atmosphere at the virtual internship was very friendly and helpful. All of those involved were keen to help and get to know each one of us. Within our case study teams everyone was friendly and this allowed us to work extremely well together. Considering that there was a lot of people on this internship, I had a positive experience with everyone I spoke to and this allowed me to thoroughly enjoy my week with EY.
The firm were very good with allowing us to gain the most out of the experience as possible. They allowed us to work on a case study within groups and gave us buddy’s and mentors to help with this. This allowed us to ask questions and gain invaluable experience. Overall, everyone involved in the internship programme invested their time and effort into developing a great programme and helping each one of us progress and learn more.
Although the internship was virtual and being in the office for 6 weeks would have been more of an indication of the real job, the virtual experience was still extremely beneficial. It allowed us to gain the skills and knowledge that are required for the job and also meet those that do the job. With the advancement of technology, working from home may be more common and therefore the virtual internship may be more beneficial.
The company culture was conveyed through all of the presentations and talks and this allowed the interns to be aware and clear about this. Everyone was very friendly which is an extremely important culture to have in a company. Furthermore, the values of EY were shown many times which is important as these are the roots of the business and tells the interns a bit more about what it would be like to work there permanently.
I already wanted to start a career at EY before the virtual internship however this week and the knowledge gained from this internship solidified my choice. The content in each different talk throughout the week was extremely useful and allowed a deeper insight into what it is like to work at EY. This is very beneficial for those who are unsure on future career paths and will have made up many people’s minds on a career in assurance.
Everything Else
I believe that this internship is a paid experience, which I am extremely grateful for.
There were many opportunities to meet different employees at EY and connect with them on LinkedIn. There was a panel session which allowed questions to employees that took different paths at EY, which was very helpful to hear how different each experience was and how they are all enjoying it still. Also we were able to have video calls with our buddy and mentor which was of extreme value to ask questions and receive honest and more informal answers.
The networking and social event opportunities were extremely good, with many different types available. There was 1:1 networking with buddy’s and mentors, group social case study work which was extremely nice to meet those that you will be working with in the future, and panel interviews that allowed us to hear from employees that took different routes into EY. There were various opportunities to add employees on LinkedIn and they were happy to provide those details.
There was a talk on the different groups that can be joined at EY and information was given into each and those that we may find interesting. There is a good social side of EY and this is extremely attractive to a young graduate. Furthermore, we received a talk about EY ambassadors which was extremely interesting and good to know about. This was something that I didn’t previously know and allowed me to consider getting involved in this.
Yes I would definitely recommend this virtual internship to a friend as i believe that the information provided and experience was invaluable. Each member of the recruitment team were extremely good and made the experience even better, along with every employee that took time out of their working day to talk to us. It is also a good way to meet those that you will be working with and was extremely beneficial. I would recommend to anyone who wants to work with EY in the future.
