About You
We were provided with an extensive insightful programme over a week. We received exposure to lots of player types in the company and heard about their personal and career journey. Not only did I get a great exposure to the Bloomberg Sales+Analytics and Global Data departments, but also to the culture and values of the company. We also received exposure to other divisions and management, which further showed the company environment. I am really happy overall with the programme provided to us.
I thoroughly enjoyed the recruitment process, it was very personal with individual constructive feedback and appreciation of my personal circumstances (technical issues, health issues). This carried through to the week, where I had to step away from the computer every now and again, the team was very understanding of my circumstance and always had time to address concerns and questions. I felt able to speak freely and I felt heard throughout the entire week, both in speaker sessions and networking opportunities.
We were given access to the internal Bloomberg network, we had opportunities to network with employees and interns outside of sessions, where we were able to ask them for advice and guidance. We also had daily Q+A sessions with team leads, sometimes multiple a day, which was blocked out time for us interns specifically to ask any further questions we had and learn more about the respective departments and Bloomberg as a company overall. Whenever I had issues, the team was quick to reach out and support me!
My degree isn't exactly related to the responsibilities I would have as a Bloomberg employee, however with a department in mind, Global Data, I am able to address more coding opportunities in my degree and develop those further through external modules and initiative. I think the week has also left me with a lot of knowledge and sector-specific insight I can use during the rest of my degree and beyond. From financial expertise, to knowing about different structures in the company and roles within Bloomberg.
The Company
As forementioned, the team had prepared a jam-packed weekly schedule, with lots of informative industry sessions, networking opportunities (with each other and summer interns), practical terminal exercises and Q+A sessions with team leads. This made for a very engaging virtual experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The team made sure we knew where we had to be and what we had to do, all our concerns were addressed promptly and everything felt very professional and well thought out.
The recruitment coordinator and team leads were incredibly engaging and easy to talk to. This resulted in us interns feeling very comfortable and confident in the environment they created for us. The speakers also did this, and we were never shy in asking questions. The many networking events really made us all closer as an intern co-hort and we really felt connected and aligned with the company culture, all whilst receiving valuable knowledge about Bloomberg and career opportunities.
The company has thoroughly impressed me in this space, they provided us with a valuable training course, BMC, for free, alongside terminal access for the week. It felt amazing to be invested in in this capacity as an insights intern. During the week there was also a lot of training exercises on the terminal, learning about different functions and their value. We also received a lot of exposure to company management, whose time is also very valuable. They were always open to questions from us.
We were exposed to a lot of employees, who were given a platform to speak about their experience, which they did in a very personable, open way. They also spoke about responsibilities, struggles and opportunities. This gave a very clear idea of what it would be like to step into their shoes. I am really impressed this was managed to be done virtually. We also received networking opportunities with summer interns, who revealed different levels of responsibilities one has even as early careers.
We received real-time, relevant demonstrations and insight to various roles. This helped me cement my interest in the Global Data space and the more I learned about it, the more I was interested in pursuing a career path in that space. We were also given a project, where we got to explore the terminal functions to solve and discuss around a problem in an area of expertise. We also received a lot of presentations and Q+A sessions to ask further around topics.
Everything Else
This was an area I was really excited about learning about. Volunteering and extra-curricular opportunities and networks at a company are very important to me. We were given a special presentation on just this, I really enjoyed it. I was really excited to learn about how much employees can get involved with and how much the company genuinely supports volunteering efforts and employee-led networks. Was happy to learn there are dozens of opportunities to get involved with at any level of your career at Bloomberg.
Definitely!
