About You
I loved it - it was such a great experienced and learnt so much. I had very little financial knowledge, just a lot of interest, and it really ought everything from the basics and in extreme depth.
I felt very valued, lots of different people across the company took time out of their day to teach us really interesting and technical knowledge. Also, if I had any remaining questions, I messaged a few presenters and they replied immediately with so much information and all were really kind! Very friendly and welcoming :)
Received a lot of guidance and support. We had a couple of small Q&A sessions each day where the Team Leaders would respond to any question we had, big or small. They were also always available in the chat to help us with our final projects!
As I study a non-finance related degree, this really helped bring both my studies and my future career a fresh perspective. I really developed my team-work skills through the project, let alone the finance and economics knowledge I gained in all the presentations which will help me in all aspects of life, academic, professional and personal.
The Company
It was extremely well structured. The co-ordinator sent us a very detailed plan of the week on excel and organised various different virtual rooms we could meet, creating a little virtual office for us! We also had scheduled in socialising time which was great specially because of the virtual nature.
The atmosphere was great - I made particularly good friends in my smaller project team. All the team leaders were really supportive. Meeting other interns doing the summer vacation scheme was also a great way to get more insight and make friends beyond the insighter cohort. They managed to create a great, fun and friendly atmosphere despite it all being online.
They invested lots in giving us personal training on the Bloomberg Terminal, giving us all an individual free month long subscription to it.
They had a lot on emphasis on showing us exactly the structure of our role and what the day in the life would be if we got a full time job at the company. During the Q&A sessions we could ask the Team Leaders anything about the role which was really useful in understanding why I really want the full time role. We also had specific sessions demonstrating what the training involves. An exercise we did allowed us to simulate a real-time enquiry into the Bloomberg terminal and practice one of the key aspects of joining into the Analytics department.
They really showed us what the company culture is like at Bloomberg. For example, one of the panels consisted of ex-insighters who are currently working for Bloomberg. It was really nice to see the young and lively culture among recent recruits and being able to connect with them and ask them anything. The welcoming atmosphere at all sessions always showed us in practice what the company is like in terms of its unique company culture, which we had all heard about before but now finally got to experience!
This was very valuable. Although I had a really strong interest in Bloomberg as a company this further consolidated how unique it is and why I have this interest beyond what is seen on the website. The focus on meeting lots of current employees in all kinds of roles, from new hires to department managers really helped me see what the company was like and who I would be working alongside. The financial knowledge I learnt will definitely help me pursue my future career in this industry.
Everything Else
Since it was virtual there were very few expenses however they did send us small goodies and there were awards in most of the interactive activities throughout the week.
Yes! there were lots of opportunities. If we messaged any one at any time they would reply with a lot of genuine enthusiasm.
They were really fun and interactive - made some good connections and friends!
Yes! we found out about Bloomberg Philanthropies and Best of Bloomberg which look really fun and also extremely necessary. We also learnt about the different sports teams and perks of working at Bloomberg - eg Gym memberships, restaurants etc.
Yes, 100%
