    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I thought it was a very well put together virtual internship. I felt valued and was given the opportunity to help my team on many different areas of work. The work was varied, challenging and also enjoyable, giving me the opportunity to learn new skills and develop existing ones. The Aon Intern project was also very enjoyable. We were split into teams of interns to complete a project, with a written report and presentation as the end goal.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my time at the company. I was given interesting and challenging work to do and I could see where my work was making an impact. As part of the Aon project we had to prepare and deliver a presentation on the findings of our project. We delivered this virtual presentation to multiple more senior Aon colleagues who listened with interest and asked questions about our work which would be used to help Aon in the future.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • I received lots of high quality guidance and support during my virtual internship. The interns received training on excel and other technical programmes as well as training on the wider areas that we were interning in. Each intern also had a buddy and a manager who were both very kind and approachable to help you with and problems and queries that you had. In addition every member was very helpful in answering and questions I had.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed and the information I received will be very useful for my continuing degree studies and beyond, though more useful for beyond. I developed my skills in important areas such as excel, virtual team work and virtual presentation skills. These skills, especially virtual team work, will be very useful to me in my coming year at university. In addition, the skills will be very useful in the future when I am starting my career.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The virtual internship was very well structured. The first week was split into a general induction and specialist induction. The general induction gave an overview of the programme and what we would be doing for the next 2 months. The specialist induction then gave the interns more information and training in the areas that we would be going into. After this the majority of time was spent working directly with our teams but time was also spent on weekly learning sessions, story hours and intern projects.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • The general atmosphere during my virtual internship was very good. My fellow interns were all very kind and I enjoyed working alongside them during my intern project. My wider team were also very welcoming and everyone was very helpful throughout my time working at Aon. In addition, there were multiple virtual social events both with the wider team that I was a part of and with other interns. These events were very enjoyable and allowed me to get to know the people I was working with better.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Aon put a lot of emphasis on personal training and development, both as a wider company and as the team I was working in. There were weekly learning hours where a different speaker would talk to all the interns something, for example giving advice on how to deliver virtual presentations. In addition, sessions were held with interns from around the world which developed other skills. For example these sessions gave advice on how to cope with stress or deal with negative feedback.

  • The virtual internship was very useful in helping me understand what it would be like to have a full time role within Aon. I worked on several different projects with members of my team and had great opportunities to contribute to these projects. I also had the opportunity to talk to members of the team in depth about the work I was doing and so could see how to contributed to the bigger picture of the projects.
