About You
I've loved my internship with Tesco. The culture is so welcoming, inclusive and helpful. I've really enjoyed working on the Sustainable Diets project and found it so interesting. I really like that the company is so excited to hear our ideas and that our ideas could become a reality at Tesco!
I feel very valued and welcomed. This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions have done a really good job of welcoming us all in and making us feel like part of the family. Everyone at Tesco is more than willing to give up their time and help us with various parts of our project or just for career advice. I feel that I am listened to and my opinions are valuable and taken into account.
There was always someone to go to or someone to call, if I needed help. They would always reply very quickly. If they could help me, then they would, if they couldn't then they knew someone who could.
The careers advice has been so useful. I didn't realise how broad Tesco was as a business, so it's really opened my eyes to the types of jobs available. It's also helped me get used to working virtually and network, which is a skill I think will is important for the future.
The Company
This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions had developed a broad internship schedule that involved a main meeting in the morning and allowed us to meet lots of different people. We would then have a meeting with our project group in the afternoon. Around this we were expected to be working on our project. We could also schedule our own meetings with various people in the business to talk about our project or careers etc.
The atmosphere was very light-hearted when on calls. It was a very inclusive, welcoming and empathetic environment. Tesco really focus on making sure that you are happy and enjoying work. There was always someone to talk to, if you wanted to. With the internship being completely virtual, the social side was different to if we had been working in the office. But, we had time to get to know a lot of the interns.
it was very obvious from talking to people in the business that many people join Tesco as a graduate or intern and never leave! It seems that as a business Tesco is keen for people to progress and develop professionally. There is also learning modules and meetings that we were expected to attend to help support us through the internship and beyond.
Every week we would meet one or two people who were very high up in the company and have a chat with them about their career. We could also arrange meetings with anyone in the business to get to know more about their job and their career. They would always let us ask any questions that we had.
Right from the start of the internship, it was really clear what Tesco was like as an organisation and what they were trying to achieve. They have a strong focus on colleague wellbeing and of support you to achieve your best. The company culture is vastly different from what I expected (in a good way) and is very relaxed and friendly!
There was a lot of opportunities to explore and get to know different areas of the business, which really helped me to understand and decide for my career.
Everything Else
We were paid a good salary for the duration of the internship. If the internship had been in the office, I would have been able to rent a room in a house and afford to live comfortably/travel to work.
There was so many opportunities. If you wanted to talk to someone in a certain area of the business, then you could just ask [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] for their contact details and they would be more than happy to set up a meeting with you.
The meetings set up for networking were very useful. At the start of the internship, the social side of the internship was lacking. However, after speaking to [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] they really helped to set up more social events and in smaller groups, which really helped us to get to know each other better and have a social side.
We found out about a few opportunities that we could get involved in.
I've really enjoyed my virtual internship. It has been very useful and helpful. I feel that I have really made the most of it and Tesco have definitely facilitated this. We have been able to experience and understand so many different areas of the business. I feel that everyone in the business is interested in the interns and wants to hear what we have to say.
