The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Pall. I can’t imagine having my placement at any other company, the opportunities and experiences I have been given are second to none.
I have felt extremely valued throughout my placement. I have always been able to contribute in meetings and know that my opinion has been taken on board. I have been treated as if I were a permanent member of staff since I joined and have never felt like an inter n or been given ‘intern’ jobs to do.
The management team around me has been incredibly supportive during my placement. I have always felt as if I can talk to them about any issues or problems I have encountered. When I have expressed an interest in something work related, they have endeavored to get me experience in that subject, whether that be training or work experience.
No day has been the same since I started my placement. I have never felt overwhelmed with the amount of work I have been given nor felt as if I have had nothing to do. However, when managers ask you to complete additional work it is only because they know they can trust you to complete the work to a high standard and that it will not affect your existing responsibilities.
Since day 1 at Pall I have been given enormous amounts responsibility for an intern. I have been supporting various projects, running pieces of equipment that provide services for the entire company.
My degree is in Chemical Engineering and I would say I have done more work on the mechanical spectrum whilst on my placement. However, that is not to say that the knowledge I have gained isn't in-valuable. As well as this the general professionalism, time management, project management, and general understanding of the bio pharmaceutical industry I have developed will be critical to my future as a student and a graduate.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was incredibly welcoming, even since COVID-19 team members been keeping spirits up by holding virtual events such as Poker nights and general catch up meetings.
The placement has been run extremely well throughout. Pall has employed interns for many years now and it shows in the way you're treated and the responsibility you are given. The company also puts on a monthly breakfast club where all the inerns get to together to socialize, receive training and listen to careers talks.
I have been given lots of training at Pall including Project Management, Statistical software used for data analysis and presentation skills. Pall asks you set development goals agreed with be your manager to ensure that you do receive training and develop yourself.

Working from home
Employment prospects are very appealing at Pall, The company runs graduate schemes in Research and Development and Operations. Once the applications open I will be applying to them in the hope that I can return to work at Pall after I finish university.
The Culture
There was a great scene among colleagues at Pall. We would regularly go on nights out and since lock down was lifted we have been having socially distanced gatherings on the beach to maintain the social aspect of work.
I lived at home during my placement, but from talking to other interns it seem as if Portsmouth wasn't a too expensive area to live in.
The night life in Portsmouth is good, lots of bars and a couple of clubs as well.
