About You
It has been a really enjoyable 6 weeks virtual internship. They have also put in a lot of effort to arrange social and networking events which has been lovely.
The work we have been given has felt real and meaningful and I feel like they really listen to and consider our ideas. It certainly hasn't felt like they made up fake meaningless work for us to do during the internship which won't actually be of any use to anyone.
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] from the Apprenticeship and Graduate team have been brilliant at being a point of contact for us if ever we had any questions or even if we just wanted to chat. They have been really friendly throughout and have made a real effort to make us feel supported and welcome at the company.
The information we have been learning isn't relevant to my specific degree subject, but it will really help me as I try to enter the marketing and advertising industry after Uni. A lot of our work has been researching and reading reports from the great database of market research and insight, so through that I have learnt so much about marketing, customer behaviour and strategy.
The Company
It was largely very well structured. There was a lot of planned learning/training sessions and talks from people in the business, even people from the executive board. The only slight issue was that there was a lot of free time where we didn't have that much work to do, however this did vary between the project groups, so perhaps this could be standardised more across the projects.
It has been a lovely atmosphere, everyone we have met has been incredibly friendly and approachable, even the executive leadership members. There has been a lot of focus on wellbeing and self-care which has been lovely. There has been slight pressure but only a good, natural amount. They have never tried to scare or intimidate us which I have really liked.
We have done various skills training sessions and online company compliance training which has all been really helpful. I was pleasantly surprised at how much time they put into training us considering the internship only lasted 6 weeks.
We have had a great insight into the company, including various presentations about the company's values and strategy. Everyone we have met has talked to us about their experience and their journey with Tesco which has been really helpful. I does seem like our schedules are much less busy than current Tesco employees (naturally) so it is still a little unclear just how busy/hectic an average day is for a full time employee.
Very well, largely due to the various talks and presentations on what Tesco stands for as a company, including talks from people in HR who are truly committed to improving colleague wellbeing, which has been lovely to witness.
Very valuable, and it has shown me that Tesco is a company which can offer a huge amount of varied experiences and career paths, which has been encouraging for me.
Everything Else
We are paid very respectably and pretty standardly for most internships from what I understand.
Very good, the team put a lot of effort into arranging and organising socialising and networking opportunities for us, which was really nice as this was a concern of mine about the virtual internship. We had events such as coffee roulette, after work drinks and painting.
They were very good, and a lot of effort was put into making them interesting and original.
Yes, we were told by the team who ran the internship who we had morning meetings with most days, or they were scheduled into our calendars with an RSVP option.
Absolutely, it has been a brilliant experience which has taught me a lot about business and the company and has helped me meet lots of new people.
