The Role
I highly enjoyed my work placement with ProspectSoft due to a large number of reasons. Firstly, as it's an SME, it has a great culture to become close to the people you work with, allowing for personal growth within the job and also developing skills. There are also many opportunities to take on which provided me with a great deal of responsibility in the role - something which I feel is exclusive to this company, as we were treated just like any other member of staff. The job itself has a variety of roles that kept me busy and engaged throughout the year.
I felt extremely valued throughout my placement year from all members of staff, through continuous praise and also monthly appraisals. I was also given tasks that held a lot of responsibility, again making me feel valued by others. Good work definitely doesn't go unnoticed and the atmosphere is always positive in the office. Being in a close-knit, community feel definitely made me enjoy my time more.
The support and guidance received was definitely something which helped my personal growth, along with developing my skills. Any member of staff, especially department managers were always willing to offer their support regardless of the situation. I could always ask questions if I needed guidance or reassurance and not once did I feel that I was left in the dark to complete a task. Especially during the first few months where I required guidance the most, everyone was extremely helpful.
I was given a wide variety of tasks to complete throughout my year, ranging from small to large projects; therefore, I was always kept busy. My tasks were set in a list format which I could prioritise depending on the time scale of completing them which really helped with the organisational aspect. Some periods were busier than others which I enjoyed, but I never felt overwhelmed with the volume of work or felt that I was under pressure.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility - something that I didn't realise I would get from a placement. However, as mentioned previously, as this is a smaller company, it has the benefit of providing placement students with as much responsibility as they can take on. Colleagues always trusted placement students with large projects as we were treated just like permanent staff.
This placement has developed and created a plethora of skills beyond those that I have practiced in University. I gained real-life, hands on experience daily which has allowed me to develop as a person and also be prepared for the future during my final year of University and also after I graduate.
The Company
The atmosphere was always positive and relaxing. It wasn't a stressful environment at all, everyone was friendly and I could talk to all of my colleagues. The general atmosphere really made me enjoy my time with ProspectSoft.
The work placement was extremely organised, especially during key periods such as the assessment centre, familiarisation day and the overall experience.
Personal training and develop was a key aspect of this placement due to the ongoing guidance and support from colleagues, as well as the responsibility I was given.
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
It is definitely an appealing job due to the company culture, the people who work there and also the different roles involved.
The Culture
There was a really good social scene as the company take on a lot of placement students, especially as I lived with 4 other placements. We were involved in work social events, as well as outside of work events.
The cost of living was probably above average; however, this is due to the fact that I lived in Oxford and commuted to the office. There are areas around the office that would be cheaper. There is a good social scene in Oxford.
I typically went out into Oxford as this is where I lived amongst other placements and the nightlife was enjoyable with lots of nice bars and plenty of other students.
Many colleagues would always suggest events to do outside of work which I really enjoyed, and my housemates and I often did things outside of work.
