About You
I really enjoyed the insight program at Croydon hospital. It gave me a great understanding of the work that takes place in the healthcare system. I was able to see the work of doctors but also other healthcare professionals who work in the multidisciplinary team. It was a really enjoyable experience for me.
Throughout my time at the hospital I was always made sure that I was part of the team and making the most of my time there. They really wanted me to make every day a new experience and put me on different aspects of the hospital. This really helped my learning.
We were given plenty of support during our time there this included one-to-one a discussion with our supervisor at the end of every day. Here any concerns were discussed and any opportunities for the next table also mentioned. They really wanted us to make the most of our time there and this was a fantastic way of doing so.
Before this placement I was unsure about whether to do medicine as a career but this opportunity has definitely strengthened my desire to do this career. I learnt something new which helped me further understand that this is what I want to do for my future. I am very grateful to have this opportunity.
The Company
The inside program was very well structured since every day the supervisor wanted me to make the most of the opportunity there and I was given plenty of support whenever I needed help. Everyone was really kind and friendly and always there for me when I was struggling with something. A great team of professionals.
The general atmosphere was definitely really hectic due to the coronavirus that was taking place are all around the country. In London the cases were extremely high at the point so we were seeing a huge influx of patients, but the team made sure that I was always an under supervision and not doing anything beyond my expertise.
It was really obvious from the beginning that the team wanted me to make the most of my opportunity there. I had exposure to patients on a daily basis but also this was consolidated by clinical skills teaching which involved putting cannulas into dummies and I found this really fun. There was a good blend of different experiences.
From experience I can definitely say that working in the NHS is it an easy job but the rewards are there specially helping patients recover from their medical problems and long-term management of these conditions. There is plenty of support from the team around you and this is something that does appeal to me.
Experience again from this insight program was truly invaluable and definitely allowed me to understand that this is what I want to do for my long-term career. I thoroughly enjoyed working with all the different healthcare professionals and learning different things every day. It's a wonderful experience for people looking to looking to get into this career.
Everything Else
Although I was not reimbursed for the placement, experience again from the hospital was much more valuable than I could ever ever imagine. Write an experience I was unsure about whether this is what I want to do for my career but now I am definitely sure that this is the route I want to take.
I would definitely 100% recommend this to anyone in a similar position to me. Anyone looking to get into medicine but unsure about whether this is for them, opportunity will open your eyes and give you firsthand exposure of the work that takes place in healthcare system. Although for me this is just the beginning, he's given me some experience which I hadn't had before so for this I am very grateful for the hospital for allowing me to have this opportunity.
