    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It has been a wonderful experience overall. I find it exciting to work in office environment especially to attend meetings in the morning. I found it innovative experience that motivated me throughout the whole year to adopt something. I enjoyed working in a team and learnt to meet objectives of the project collaboratively.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They always showed great appreciation for my efforts and I liked when they encouraged and motivated me on several occasions. I was made to feel like a valuable member of the company and that the work I have been provided has always been meaningful. All of my colleagues were so supportive and friendly.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • When I joined and started my first project they provided me with some background reading and some online training modules to complete that really helped me to understand the concepts before I kick off the project works. My line manager was so supportive in terms of providing me with accurate guidance before taking on any work. Most of the colleges were always available and ready were help was needed. I haven’t just improved my specialized aptitudes, but I have additionally picked up the capacity to work and communicate with individuals from various backgrounds. It enabled me not to improve only my technical skills but also gave me a sense to work in office environment which I feel is really a good start of my career journey.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload varied based on the projects and nature of work. Few months were extremely busy. But I found my each day so productive and effective. I was encouraged to be proactive and I was given the chance to ask for projects in different teams thus to learn some new skills. They always provided me with the project work of my interest. I didn't find myself that I have spare time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given considerable amount of work. It was proper balance and managed. When I started I was given small tasks to assist team members and to gain several skills but later on I was given projects that were going towards major projects so I felt I had appropriate level of responsibility. I have gained a level of experience while working across various type of projects.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It was undoubtably was a great experience. I appreciate the fact working closely with senior professional experts. This placement year certainly given me an insight into the wider engineering business worldwide and project management skills. It has honored my technical skills to a great extent, especially the knowledge of risk analysis and reliability study. My position year at Arup helped me increase a broad measure of understanding through the various tasks I was appointed to. I have had the chance to pick up understanding of a specialty technical risk analysis. I got opportunity to gain from technical senior experts and I offered back to the organization with the information I have obtained. It helped me to understand the significance of accomplishing work experience as well as getting a master’s degree.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a great working environment to work. It was one in which it felt that everybody was there to help others. There seemed, by all accounts, to be incredible collaboration and a feeling that the more experienced architects were going about as coaches to the more current engineers.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My line manager had recently made a few inquiries at the workplace for work for me to do, so that once I showed up at my position, there were undertakings for me to start. When I had settled in, I understood who best to speak with for different tasks, and my line manager was exceptionally useful.

  • It was undoubtably was a great experience. I appreciate the fact working closely with senior professional experts.   • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I feel I couldn't find a better company than Arup. It has given me a lot of knowledge and competencies in a year only. I was wondering what if I spend more time learning as well as deploying knowledge into real time projects. therefore, I decided to continue my journey with Arup. Working for a global firm, driving firm presents numerous open doors for changed work and I accept that the corporate advantages give incredible motivators and permit you to center upon and exceed expectations in your work.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, it was. We usually went for lunch together outside the office. I enjoyed talking and telling stories while going for lunch and had fun together. All my teammates were so social, friendly in nature and welcoming.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The area I worked is london westminister. I found this area expense to rent property. but socializing areas are reasonable. there are variety of famous shops and market nearby. The closest station was warren street which is only 5 mins walking distance from office.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was a nearby park where I liked going after work and it has relaxed atmosphere. I like this park usually Christmas days when it covered with variety of lights and trees.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were several career events and workshops usually conducted after work I was invited on and that was damn good networking experience.
