The Role
Due to covid-19 the internship had to be virtual but PepsiCo did everything they could to make this as interactive as possible. Throughout the three weeks I learnt a lot of new information about the different areas of business such as Grocery, Marketing, E-Commerce, Sustainability and Away from Home. We also learnt the life stories of the brands and were given tasks to work in teams and present where we gained valuable feedback and were able to interact with one another.
Everyone was really lovely and were willing to help at any point! In our teamwork and presentations I felt like my opinion and ideas were really valued and taken into consideration! I also felt so comfortable with everyone. It was really relaxed which I liked, especially when it's over zoom it can be a bit daunghting but i felt so relaxed speaking to everyone straight away! Everyone was so friendly and helpful which really made a difference!
We were given loads of support and guidance! We firstl had a separate email which we could use if we had any questions about anything. We also got given a buddy and a mentor to help us with any questions we have and to help us on our Dragon's den task which was so useful! It also made things abit informal and felt like we really got to know the people who worked there which made such a difference! Everyone couldn't do enough to help which was so appreciated!
We had talks/presentations and tasks each day on different areas for example some days were on grocery, marketing, sustainability, leadership, Away from home etc. which made each day really exciting and fun! We also had personal time on some days where we could advance our learning on a platform but also for us to catch up with our buddy's/mentors and work on our dragon's den! So i felt like we were always doing something which made it really fun!
Due to it being online, I think it was a bit more difficult to give us actual responsibility. But at the same time I did feel like we were given quite a lot of responsibility because we were given tasks each day and presentations to make and especially working on the Dragon's den presentation. I really liked this because I feel like we were given the right levels of responsibility but also they provided us with a laptop and for Dragon's den we were able to reach out to different people to ask for advice which makes it feel really real!
I learnt and developed so many skills over the past few weeks, either through just listening to the talks, communicating with new people, presenting our ideas, creating new ideas. I felt like every single day we were learning or developing a new skil which I found really valuable. Each day consisted of us giving some kind of presentation which I know has massively improved my presentation and communication skills but also someitmes we would be working under a time pressure which I really found useful for my degree and beyond!
The Company
There was no office because of covid so it was all virtual! However, it definitely felt like an office with how friendly and welcoming everyone was! Although it was over zoom, the atmosphere was really good and we had some really good conversations!
The internship was organised very well! Right from the beginning when they had to change all the plans due to covid, PepsiCo did an amazing job at arranging other plans and they communicated this to us the whole way! Each day was set up differently and it was all very organised so we knew what we was doing each day and was able to hear from so many different people which gave me a great insight into the business!
Although the internship was online, PepsiCo invested so many resources and so much time to help our personal development! We were given a platform where we could choose what we wanted to learn further and this was a great learning aid throughout the whole internship! We also had our own presentation to create and organise which really allowed us to develop our skills and learn more about the business! They were always on hand if we had any questions which was great!
Working from home
Future employment prospects are very appealing! After working there for 3 weeks and learning so much information and developing skills in such a short space of time, ot is defintely a company who I want to work for in the future! Everyone was so lovely and couldn't do enough to help which meant a lot to me! They also invested a lot of time and resources for us to learn and develop more which really means a lot!
The Culture
Although it was virtual, there was actually a good social scene amongst the interns! We would meet up on zoom for a chat after work and to talk about other things and I have definitely made some great friends! We are even planning on meeting up in the future so we can meet each other in person!
It was at home so cost me nothing which was great! PepsiCo provided all the equipment we needed which helped a lot!
No nightlife because of Covid-19.
There definitely sounds like there are opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work however because of covid we couldn't experience any of these.
