The Role
I have enjoyed this work placement a lot. There were so many opportunities throughout the year, and I have gained a wide range of industry knowlegde. Not only that, but I have also made a lot of very good industry connections that will hopefully be beneficial to me after I have graduated. Each day was a great learning opportunity, and I worked on a wide variety of issues, which was really beneficial to my learning.
Almost all of my colleagues were very supportive if I ever needed anything. There was also a great atmosphere within the office, where most people were very friendly and open. Overall, I felt respected and also valued by my colleagues, and would not hesistate to return to the same place of work in the future. Sometimes placement students will be given all the menial and boring tasks, however at Faurecia this was not the case.
There is an inital 3 week handover period, during which a full summary and lots of files are transferred between the old student and the new student. Throughout the year there is additional support, not only from the management but also from more experienced colleagues, who have a useful knowlegde of the past projects that the company has worked on. There was a good balance, as I was also left to get on with a task myself if I felt confident.
I was very busy throughout the year. There were very few times where I was left with nothing to do. That being said, I was never required to work longer than my contracted hours, so I would define this as the perfect balance. Having a busy calendar meant that I was able to gain more knowledge in the industry than I had ever expected to. There was also a variety of tasks, so I was never bored.
My role came with a lot of responsibilty. There was support from management on very important projects as would be expected, but for smaller projects I was left to take the lead as much as possible. This was excellent for building my confidence throughout the year, as I soon realised what I was capable of. In my role I was able to be as responsible as I wanted to be. If i didn't feel confident, there was always support.
There were many skills that this placement provides that you can use in future life on a daily basis, not just in the work place. Things such as communication skills. Not only have I learnt new skills throughout the year, but also developed existing ones. It has also changed the way that I would approach certain situations in the future. For my degree, I have also picked up Engineering based skills that will be useful in my final year.
The Company
There was a great atmosphere in the office. All of the staff were very friendly and made me feel welcome immediately. There were plenty of times where we could have a laugh and a joke, but it was still a serious work place when the time came. The staff did not treat the placement students like personal assistants, and respected the fact that we were there to do our own jobs, not just making tea!
The organisation of the placement was excellent. Right from the interview day there was a clear structure and agenda to anything that was done. The placement began with a handover, and also had reviews throughout the year. There was also a clear defined job role, which means that you can do your job, and not just the tasks for other people that they do not want to do. Throughout the year it felt as if there was always a plan going forward.
There was lots of training throughout the year. There are also hundreds and hundreds of online training module that are optional to give you a wider range of skills and knowledge that are useful in the work place. These are not limited to your specific job role, as you can also do a training module that might help you with skills in your day to day life. The company invests heavily in personal development for everyone.

Working from home
I would definitely return to Faurecia. They have a very organised graduate scheme, which includes a masters degree that they pay for. They also run an international scheme for post grads which looks very appealing too. As with the placements, these schemes look to be very well organised, and the people that I have spoken to who work on these schemes appear to enjoy them. I will definitely be applying once I have finished uni.
The Culture
The opportunity for a good social scene was there for anybody who wanted to take it. Among other things, we did work nights out, bowling and also played football together once a week. All of the events were of course voluntary, so it was really up to the individual to be as involved as they wanted to be, as everyone was invited. There are a lot of students in the buisness, so finding people your own age isn't difficult.

Yes, there were several opportunities not only set up by the company, but by the other students and staff.
