    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall, I enjoyed working in Faurecia. It is a good company that offers numerous opportunities for self development, it just requires the right person to appreciate this and seize all opportunities. The company is full of lovely people that will encourage and support a student in their placement, a great working environment. There are lots of avenues to take with the company once graduating - the numerous possibilities are refreshing and contrast massively to the generic graduate scheme template.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt as though I was there to fulfill the more meanial tasks, however as a student working in the professional world I believe it would be too much too soon for myself to jump into a highly demanding role straight away. Multiple performance reviews throughout the year which offer the opportunity for feedback, listening to strengths and weaknesses to enhance and improve performance. I was not treated as a temporary member of staff, being involved in out of office activities.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The individual responsible for my learning of the roles tasks and responsibilities was the placement student before me. Having a handover was a nice method to meet my predecessor, and hear their opinion about the year. However, this can be risky as it relies on someone who wont work for the company in two weeks to pass on knowledge. My handover experience was poor, but management and supervisors were understanding of this and offered support to help me fulfill my potential.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I took over the roles of two students in the department before me. One side of my work was administratively based, whereas the other side was hands on 'implementation'. This resulted in the scenario where I always had tasks to complete unlike other students who might have more 'free' time to complete company development activities. The workload was not overly big, however there were periods where i would be rushing to complete tasks as quickly as possible.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility. My tasks were important to ensure the department ran smoothly and operated within the monthly budget. My tasks needed to be completed within a tight time range, as production of finished goods depended on the timely delivery of materials. My responsibilities also required interaction with external companies to order production components or to ensure payment for service providers. As i became increasingly profficient my colleagues delegated new responsibilities to enhance my experience and develop me further.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed will assist me greatly in the final year of my degree. I have seleceted modules based on similiar concepts to my role this year. This will allow me to apply my experiences from the placement into study and understand operations from a more technical point of view. I have also observed and improved multiple soft skills such as team work and communication sills. these soft skills will assist me in completing final year projects.
