The Role
The company was extremely good at making us feel welcome, involved, and challenged without giving us things to do that were completely out of our depth.
Towards the start I had less experience so felt like i was asking more questions than I was able to answer, but as I gained more confidence what I was doing definitely felt valued by other interns and our trainers.
Amazing support! I came in with little to no coding experience and have learnt SO MUCH thanks to the extensive support received from my intern trainer. However, I never felt like I was being stupid or not knowing something obvious, and was also given the opportunity to develop my independent working skills. The balance between being able to get guidance and figuring things out for myself was perfect.
Busy from on average 9:30 to 5:30, but with enough breaks/meetings in between that I never felt overworked or drained, but equally never felt like I was stuck in meetings for too long to get on with the work.
What we were doing felt pretty important to one of the company's commercial projects, however we weren't given the responsibility of directly editing/merging into the master code base ourselves, which was a good thing because it's such a large project that one of our mistakes could have messed up so many other people's jobs.
I have learn an extreme amount about programming, both conceptually and specifically towards a variety of languages - I've received experience in a broad range of things to do with app development and feel enriched with what I've learnt and done!
The Company
Very good - relaxed without being so relaxed that there was no pressure to work.
Extremely well organised, except for more social things, which are admittedly difficult to do virtually.
They spent a lot of time making sure I was okay with different programming concepts, that I wasn't pushing myself too hard or trying to do something that was beyond my capacity.
Working from home
Not sure yet!
The Culture
Everyone was really nice and friendly in my group and we got on really well!
