The Role
Very good learning experience in a rapidly expanding field, work content was good and lab/office balance was spot on. Everyone in the company was very supporting and welcoming from the start.
All of my colleagues were very welcoming and appreciation was given on all work, no matter how small, from direct team members and members higher up.
Management were very supportive and were available for help whenever. There were regular 1:1 meetings to discuss issues, ideas and targets.
Some days in the lab would be very hectic and busy, but they were limited. Covid-19 caused us to work from home where work dried up over time and workload was on the lower side, but there was typically enough to keep me busy.
I was involved in project-critical job regularly and as such, there was definitely responsibility handed to me. Some aspects of work weren't given to me as I was a placement student, but overall I was happy with the level of responsibility.
The skills I developed were very relevant to my degree and my future aspirations, and will also be useful if I want to return to this field of work.
The Company
The office was somewhat quiet but positive. There were not many social events outside of the office.
Start date was postponed by a week. Training was not structured and done on an as-need basis. Induction process went smoothly and regular intern meetings were good.
Outside of work training, there were not many opportunities for personal development. The interns were given presentation training and access to informational videos on topics in the industry.

Working from home
Pall focuses on internal recruitment heavily and job progression is definitely attainable. Transferring between OpCos is also seemingly easy and allows for a career change.
The Culture
Amongst interns, there was a good social scene. Portsmouth has a good nightlife and there is lots to do, we all kept in touch regularly.
Portsmouth is a very cheap area to live in. Rent, bills and transport was very cheap and places to eat and drink were reasonable.
The nightlife was very good, a lot of variety and the clubs are cheap.
There are clubs to join in Portsmouth such as the Maker's guild or sports clubs, as well as open green spaces for socializing and exercise, but a lot are restricted to the Portsmouth university students.
