The Role
I greatly enjoyed my internship. Considering the circumstances (the depths of a global pandemic) Softwire did phenomenally well to ensure everything went smoothly and we still had stuff to do.
Code was checked over rigorously before being added to the project, but this is entirely understandable. Whilst "tickets" (small-ish tasks of a few hours to a day or two) were prescreptive in what needed to be achieved, there was plenty of freedom as to how to achieve the goal. It was often left up to the interns to organise their own meetings & discussions to discuss how to achieve goals. Interns were also encouraged to lead meetings in the morning or at the end of the week.
The Company
We weren't in the office (COVID-19 lockdown) most of the time, but working from home was still made to have a nice atmosphere with games and a social side.
The Culture
Unfortunately remote working wasn't as conducive to socialising as an office would have been. Softwire did a great job to make it as good as possible.
