The Role
I wholeheartedly enjoyed my placement year. At IBM I was regularly challenged and place under the necessary pressure to develop in a personal and professional sense.
Excluding the other interns, I was quickly embraced by all levels of more senior employees with a wide range of tasks. Coming into the programme, I was initially concerned it would be "teas and coffees" but I was entrusted with delivering work to clients.
There were countless sources of support and guidance within the foundation programme but also within my service line. IBMers were fully committed and supportive of interns getting as much as possible from their placement.
Things ebbed and flowed as my role relied heavily on others co-operating however over time this got easier which meant more free time to get involved with a number of other projects and initiatives to further my personal development.
Over time the level of responsibility grew. You aren't thrown in the deep end but your hand isn't held if you're capable.
Massively! I've learnt an unbelievable amount
The Company
Good in person and good online
The hiring process was a bit of a mess in all honesty. They advertised it as being done in 30 (I think) day sprints which wasn't the case. I applied in September and was offered in June, days before I was to sign for a university house. This was the year before COVID as well.
Not financially but there were near-unlimited opportunities for personal development
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
As a placement to grad, there are tons and they are clearly presented to you throughout the year.
The Culture
Great, you make of it what you will.
Cost of living was London but was manageable considering the salary and shift to WFH
