The Role
My internship experience was great overall. Despite it being remote, I felt as part of my team from Day 1 largely due to the efforts of my manager. My work involved use of amazing datasets which made the experience even more enjoyable. I also managed to learn quite a bit about working with big databases on clouds as well as how to use time series analysis for data science purposes. So, overall I was very satisfied!
As mentioned above, from Day 1, I felt welcome by both my line manager and by the other members of our team. Even though all of them were more experienced and older than me, I felt neither the age difference, nor the difference in ranks. This is very different from all of my previous work placements which were mostly in academia (so work with professors) or in think tanks. This speaks very well about the work culture at FCA! Participating in the weekly DSU meetings was great!
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was an amazing manager and answered all of my questions. She was super supportive and communicated well what was required from me.
On some days, I was quite busy, especially during Week 6, when I had my Community Project Presentation. However, during most of the time, including Week 7, I could have taken more work. I suppose that was partly because of the remote nature of the internships as well as the fact that the DSU are a relatively new area of FCA. However, it would be nice if I could have been given more tasks such as helping our Senior Associate with some basic stuff.
I felt as if I am doing extremely meaningful work during my internship. Constructing a measure of relending is extremely important for policy-making (that was the main contribution of my work). I also got the chance to present my findings in front of Heads of Departments which additionally added more personal meaning to my work. I was also fully in control of my work, so that was great as [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] did not try to take over but simply guided me!
I was able to get some exposure to working with databases on Redshift. This is great, as such databases are the future of how data is handled. Very few people in academia in my field (Economics) know how to work with them, so this is a great advantage! In addition, I also got a lot of experience applying time series modelling after doing a very theoretical course on time series. This was invaluable as it made me very passionate about time series and made me understand the material from school in more depth.
The Company
Hard to say as the internship was remote. DSU meetings, however, were super friendly. I felt like part of the team.
I think that the Caplan trainings were not very helpful. Not many of my fellow interns enjoyed them. In addition, they were quite long. On the other hand, the Community Project was a great experience. My team was super friendly and we manged to establish a nice atmosphere, despite the internship being remote. It is a bit unfortunate that we were unable to contact organisations outside of the FCA, as this would have added value to our poject.
I appreciate the investment for Kaplain trainings and Lunch and Learns. While most of the Lunch and Learns were great, I think that Kaplan trainings should be shortened or substituted for something else.

They are great. FCA's Graduate Programme is well-paid and hours are definitely not very long!
The Culture
Yes, as established above, this was one of the key strengths of my internship.
Remote internship, so this is very hard to say.
Remote internship, so this is very hard to say. London is in general grate for Nightlife, however.
Not much, as the internship was sadly remote.
