The Role
I really enjoyed my experience. TJX is such a welcoming and supportive company, I’d recommend it to anyone thinking of applying.
I was given lots of responsibilities and felt supported every step of the way.
I always had someone to ask questions to, or point me towards the right person. My personal development was extremely important and I was guided to achieve what I wanted from myself all the time.
I was given a lot to do, and always had support to turn to if I needed more to do or help with the workload.
During my placement I was valued as an employee and not just a ‘tea maker’. This meant I had proper projects with a lot of responsibilities. I worked on everything from TV campaigns to creating insight reports for the company’s Exec team.
I’ve learnt so many skills over my time, as personal development was extremely encouraged. I had weekly chances to practise public speaking, and many chances to attend other learning and development sessions to improve in other areas. TJX is a company to want you to improve as much as you want to, and help you through every stage. I feel so much more professional confidence from my time and am sure what I’ve learnt will help my future.
The Company
There was always a great, friendly atmosphere at the office. From fun charity efforts, to general chatting around the place there was always a conversation to be had. Everyone was so approachable and welcoming. I had a great time working there.
They had a placement manager to help us out through everything, as well as individual ‘buddies’ from the business who we could talk to about anything. There was also a dedicated line manager from each team we were in, who’d make sure we had enough to do etc. We had group projects as well as individual ones, and were pushed to get involved with charity efforts and ‘fun-day’s.
They gave me the chance and support to develop in any areas I wanted. There were lots of sessions around different skills. One I particularly enjoyed was the Toastmasters, which TJX had its own internal group for. It gave me a lot of chances to improve my public speaking. Whenever I had free time I was urged to take elearning courses, or work on myself and my skills in other ways.

We had a great relationship, I really enjoyed my time at TJX and would love to go back. Obviously the world has gone mad right now so who know what the job market will be like after I finish my degree, but prospects of future employment there are extremely appealing.
The Culture
We had a great time together, but there was only 3 placement students in my function so it made social stuff a bit more tricky. The company put on a lot of placement/grad activities which was a great way to meet new people. When we did go out with the rest of the business it was always a very fun time.
It’s in Greater London/Hertfordshire so it’s not amazingly cheap to rent, however there was always cheap choices for food etc. The high street is brimming with great street food options, and the work canteen is extremely reasonably priced.
Watford isn’t quite Central London but does have its perks. It’s got all the chain bars you’d expect, but not much else (other than a Pryzm). The travel links made it easy to get to London though, so it’s very close to great nightlife.
There were a few clubs etc, but I wasn’t a part of them.
