The Role
Brilliant and very useful. A great advert for banking and HSBC - a company I would now like to work for.
Very easy to get involved and 'colleagues' (although I was not employed) were willing to answer any relevant questions and were always keen to chat. Very friendly atmosphere.
Plenty of opportunity to ask any questions about the business and different roles. Met with numerous senior figures in the company.
The programme was well structured and time was filled appropriately. Since the programme was designed to be informative, I was over worked or mentally stretched which helped in taking in the information provided. The tasks set throughout were on the whole very worth while.
The placement is designed as more of a learning process and so it would not have been appropriate to give a large amount of responsibility to the students.
I didn't develop a huge number of skills as such, but all the knowledge I gained of HSBC as a business and banking in general will be very useful in making educated career choices. The programme was very useful and educational.
The Company
Great, very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Although 'fun never stopped' probably isn't entirely appropriate.
Not really any waiting around and we always knew what was coming throughout the days.
'Everything' is very strong, again since it was largely educational, not much specific job training was involved. This is not a negative however, and HSBC and its employees invested a lot of time and effort into making sure the programme was useful and developed our knowledge of the firm.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
I don't have a job with HSBC but the employment prospects are certainly very appealing.
The Culture
Accommodation was provided and an allowance was given for evening meals, so students could easily meet after the days work and go out for a meal or something. The students are together throughout the whole placement (during the day).
The placement was designed to be free for its participants and so socialising was in effect free. However to comment about the area in general I would assume it is quite expensive being in central London.
It's a short programme so there isn't time to go out during, but it is in central London obviously the nightlife is good.
Only a three day programme. There wouldn't be much time for activities outside work, however the was a drinks event and an evening meal so in the time it was good.
