The Role
TJX Europe is a great company, which treats all their employees with respect. They were really conscious about looking after me and ensuring my workload was not too overwhelming so it was a lovely company to start my career with!
Even though I had no prior experience in marketing, my colleagues trusted me with lots of responsibilities. The company also recognises we can add value in different ways. For example, the 3 placement students were given a research project about gen z's perspective on Christmas adverts and everyone was really interested in our findings and opinions.
We were allocated and had regular catch-ups with our placement manager and buddy, as well as our line-managers, so there were lots of people to talk about and ask for advice if needed.
Some days were busier than others depending on the teams workload, but in general you were given a good amount of workload to handle.
I was given lots of projects to own independently which I really enjoyed. The managers often work around you and how capable and confident you are, so make sure you let them know how you're feeling and they will work at the level you are comfortable with.
I've developed my confidence and learnt so many transferable skills, e.g communication, presentation, public speaking which will be very useful at University but also in futher graduate jobs.
The Company
Everyone was really friendly and welcoming, always someone to chat to in the kitchen which was nice. Its hot desking so you meet lots of new people, but it is common to work from home too so sometimes your whole team isnt always in.
We were really lucky because the company scheduled meet and greets with all the different teams in marketing so you got a great introduction from everyone which really made a difference at the start. In both of my teams, my manager had planned a main placement project they wanted me to work on throughout my 6 months. The day-to-day work was less structured and more based around the teams workload at the time.
We had multiple training sessions which we were really encouraged to attend, including leadership skills, personality types and personal development. Both my managers often asked if there was any skills or knowledge I wanted to learn in particular and they really cared about you developedment over the 12 months.

Currently, there is not a brand and a marketing graduate scheme, but it is common for past placement students to come back into an officer role if availability is needed. I would love to come back and will definitely keep in touch!
The Culture
There was only 3 placement students in brand and marketing, but the company set up socials with placement and graduate students from other functions which was really nice. There was also a few nights out with other colleagues in marketing.
Watford is just outside of london so living costs are fairly expensive but you can find reasonable flat share prices, and with the placement salary you should have more than enough to live of.
There was a few bars open late and one club, but it is not the best. However, London is very close and really easy to access on the train.
Not that I was aware of.
