The Role
An extremely enjoyable internship. Everyone was welcoming and willing to answer all of my queries. We were introduced to extremely senior members of the business and offered many opportunities to network. The internship was exceptionally interactive and, as far as I'm concerned, this aided in my learning and understanding.
Similar answer to above in that everyone was always on hand to answer my questions. The representatives from the business were always friendly and happy to chat freely to me which gave me the impression that HSBC valued their interns significantly.
The programme involved many interactive tasks and sessions where we had close contact with a business representative. This opportunity for discussion within a small group environment gave me many chances to learn from the representative.
The programme was intense, which it needed to be given the volume of information that HSBC wanted to convey. However, it was organised in such a way that I had many opportunities to learn effectively through the interactive tasks/presentations, whilst giving plenty of time for networking with fellow interns and business representative. I felt that a good balance was struck and I never felt bored or overworked!
Difficult to judge this on a Spring Insight Programme as there isn't much responsibility that can be given to us. However, it could be considered that the responsibility was on us to develop contacts in the business areas of interest.
There were several workshops/exercises that had the intention of developing key skills that will aid us in the future. These included networking, presentation and analysis skills. All of these, especially the networking session, will last with me for a long time.
The Company
Extremely vibrant atmosophere with everyone looking to contribute wherever they could.
The internship was organised superbly. Often these sorts of internships could be fairly dull as you just sit around with people lecturing you. However, we were constantly made to move around and interact with our fellow interns. There was sufficient emphasis placed on each business area so that I gained a good insight into what each part does.
Again, in terms of what HSBC could do over a 3 day period, they really did excel themselves. Providing us with workshops and tasks made the experience worthwhile from a personal development point of view.

Extremely good. Being offered a summer 2013 internship final round interview at the end of April 2012 before general applications are made in September gives me a superb opportunity to secure a longer term internship. It is also made very clear that many of the summer interns then go on to take up graduate roles. I'd just better nail the interview!
The Culture
The majority were really outgoing and we socialised together frequently by going out for meals etc after work.
HSBC covered all of my hotel expenses and meal expenses for the duration of the internship! I was unblieveably grateful for what they offered in terms of accomodation, travel and meal allowance. First rate care!
Being in London, excellent nightlife is only a short journey away so there were certainly no queries on that front.
In the hotel, a group of us went to the gym several times and went swimming. However, given that the course was quite intense and we didn't get back to the hotel until later on in the day, we didn't have much chance to do anything else.
