About You
I really enjoyed doing the KPMG virtual internship because it gave me a different perspective on what goes on inside of the industry and what skills are needed to do certain tasks. I had to use different softwares to do each tasks so it made me brush up on my skills for those and learn new ones will can be valuable in my placement and later on in life. Also it gave me a sneak peak into what a placement job could look like.
I did although since its online you aren't really interacting with anyone from the company so it is hard to feel valued in any way since you are on your own doing the tasks. However they sent lots of emails and little messages on the screen which make you feel valued to a certain extent. Since its online it was limited so I can't fully judge them on that but if it was in person I can see KPMG making me feel valued.
They left videos with someone from the company explaining the task which you had to do and also had paragraphs also explaining the tasks along with extra resources which help you complete it. However I found after looking at the model answers they could have been more clear on what they were looking for. However having the model answers helps so you can see your mistakes and you have to give yourself feedback which helps you later on.
Using different softwares like excel and powerpoint it helped me brush up on my skills and learn new ones which I can use in my modules in the following years and maybe in the future in employment. Also it made me practice using more professional words and layout which can help me in everyday life especially when emailing and applying for placements. Also looking at what you have to do for that certain job gave me more of an insight on the job and made me think more of what I want to do later in life.
The Company
I think the structure of it was very easy to follow and understand. Registering was very simple and easy and only took a couple minutes which helps. then they take you step by step through the process and the tasks so it leaves a little amount of room to get confused. They also had a video when you first join explaining how to use the website which helped a lot and made me less confused later on.
Since it was online I can't say much for the atmosphere since I was doing it alone. However the whole website and everything they said and to help was very positive which made me feel better doing the work. It wasn't as scary as I thought It would be since there was so much information to help you and had a chat service if you needed help. So I felt very prepared and positive about doing the work. If it was in person I could say more on the atmosphere.
I think since it was an online experience and anyone could apply and it wasn't based on anything I don't find the firm really invested in me. Saying that I think its also a good thing that anyone could do it since it means way more people could gain the experience then they normally could (lack of grades, time, other experience). So it wasn't a big negative that they didn't invest in me as much as they could.
I think doing the different tasks really helped me understand the similar type of talks that are included when you work in places like KPMG. Also even if its not included in the task they usually tell you what happened before and after the task your doing so it tells you about even more roles in the company. also they had lots of videos explaining different components and information about there company which can be used to make you understand more of the firm.
Since it was online again I can't comment much on the culture in the company since it would be so different in person so I can't speak on that. However again it was all very positive and used positive language and nice people helping which makes me feel like the culture at KMPG is very positive and helpful to everyone and leaves little room for judgment between the staff. If I saw it in person I could speak more on this.
On one hand I think it did help cause I could see which tasks I enjoyed doing and which ones I didn't and also which programs I'm betting at doing and which ones I'm not. so this could help me in choosing a path to follow based on that. However there was only 3 tasks so it did this to a limited extent and the finance industry is massive with lots of roles and it only showed me a few.
Everything Else
It was an unpaid virtual internship so I did not get paid and didn't need to get reimbursed since it didn't cost anything to do the internship. it only cost me time which is made up since I gained so many skills and experience from it. I do not mind not getting paid at all or reimbursed in anyway since I think it was worth it regardless of getting paid or if I didn't get paid.
They did not have any networking or social events to do with this certain experience. however I know KPMG as a whole do if you did a proper internship or placement or any thing to do with them. But for me there was nothing since it is online and especially since its corona and the certain circumstances so it makes sense for them not to have any networking or social event opportunities. Im sure you could find some not linked with this specific internship.

No since again it was online. However that is not in fault of KPMG or the internship. it is cause of the circumstances in the world right now of the corona virus so it makes sense for them not to have any of what was asked. Im sure you could find out this by investigating or asking someone from the business which it gives you the opportunity to do or you could on your own time.
I one hundred percent would recommend this to a friend since you can do it all on your own time and at your own pace and in your own space. Theres no pressure or time limit so you feel more relaxed doing it. It also it such a great experience to have and to put on your CV and use when trying to find a placement or job. Also since its at KPMG it can help you be employed there later on in life if that is what you want to do.
