The Role
All the recent graduates and senior employees were really enthusiastic about their individual departments giving a strong impression of the pride they have to work at HSBC.
Everyone was very friendly and there was definitely a collegiate atmosphere. This gave me a sense of belonging to the organisation and that we were all there with a common purpose.
It was just as easy to get into a conversation with someone on a graduate scheme as it was to the senior executives. This meant it was possible to gain a lot of information, tips and guidance from those who had recently been through the application process, those who would be on the interviewing side, and those who were nearing the top of their career.
Although this was the first time HSBC were holding a spring insight programme, the schedule was packed with activities, lectures, learning experiences and more. However, there were plenty of breaks to network with peers and employees.
The HSBC spring insight programme was more an educational one. This meant there were more talks and interactive activities than experiencing day-to-day work. This meant that there wasn't a lot of responsibility placed upon us, as there was no need due to the programme description.
The networking skills, the communication skills through the various presentations and the team working skills via the interactive group activities will most definitely help with my future career.
The Company
The other students were like-minded and friendly, as were the employees. This made everyday interesting.
Even though this was the first time HSBC were setting this up, it ran smoothly with lots of events planned and plenty of opportunity for questions and networking. An overall success!
The fact that employees took time out of their busy days to talk to us showed that HSBC were keen to invest time (and money) into developing future employees.
Not only was the programme very insightful, it also offered the opportunity to fast-track students to the interview stage of a summer internship for the following year.
The Culture
Everyone was like-minded and so even though there were students from all sorts of backgrounds and universities, a common goal brought us together.
It's Canary Wharf! Need I say more?
The events in this programme are packed to make it an intensive three day placement so there was not much time for experiencing the nightlife.
As it was a short three day programme, it was not expected that there would be opportunities after the days events.
