The Role
Very much so. I was in the development team and my mentor was a Director, this was a great insight and brought a lot of opportunity from the front line. I found I had more work to do than my previous work experiences, which was fab - I think pairing with a Director is better than being paired with a grad as my questions are answered better and there is a greater opportunity with the work.
Great colleagues, all very friendly and helpful. I have a lot of questions, of which all were answered. I could see myself fitting in and we got on well, there was a good sense of team morale rather than competitive individuals.
Lots of guidance however no micromanaging which was great. When tasked jobs I could be trusted to complete them but also I felt I could rely on my team members for support and any doubts I had.
Fairly busy. Since the internship got cut from 1 month to 1 week it is difficult to get involved on a whole project and so ended up doing a lot of smaller jobs. I felt satisfied as the work I did was used (in the past at other firms I was given previous tasks on previous jobs as exercises/time fillers - nice that my work this time is relevant and useful). I was also lucky as I ended up sitting in on some big meetings and doing some significant work for this too.
More than previous placements which was great. As I said previously, my work was useful to the team and I was trusted to do work on behalf of the team. I felt respected.
Incredibly useful. My understanding of the role in development has broadened and is very much something I still aspire to do. I can see myself doing this in the future. My communication skills and confidence has grown and I look forward to applying this when I next apply to savills for Gradschemes. I think the skills learnt in the workplace have also assisted me and put me at an advantage for my final year at university, I feel my knowledge in development will help me have a greater understanding with my degree tasks and also beyond this.
The Company
Friendly and positive. Lots of good energy and light banter within teams, yet a strong understanding of a focused goal to get the job done to the best ability. Great that older and superior colleagues were just as friendly and helpful.
As good as it could have been considering COVID-19 and the amount of work I could do within just a week. I felt I was more of a priority than in previous placements - I felt valued and not neglected.
Encouraged and included in as many different activities including early morning meetings, Savills maps, strategic land, comparables etc. I felt I was exposed to a broad range of tasks which all taught me skills in these areas. I feel the team put in time and effort to train me in areas and keep me up to date with knowledge- I have been well invested.
Incredibly so. I aspire to work at Savills after I finish at university, it feels the best fit out of all the firms I work with and I feel I can be myself and enjoy the atmospheres. I have experienced this positively with teams in both Cambridge and Oxford - gives a strong sense for the positive vibes Savills gives across the country.
The Culture
Yes however tricky to experience in COVID-19 and considering just 1 week.
Cambridge is expensive but fine as I live here.
COVID-19 - however I generally recommend Lola's or Rev's - I am sure the team would be up for drinks/night life post COVID-19 if I was working with them.
COVID-19 - however I have heard about them and they seem great.
