The Role
I throughly enjoyed my placement and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone considering a career in Investment Banking or Global markets.
Everyone was very friendly and the atmosphere at the program was very pleasant.
Our supervisors were present throughout the entire program which was very useful because it allowed us to constantly feel supported and valued.
The whole program was packed and had been very well thought out and constructed. We were constantly busy, moving from one training session to another.
There was not much opportunity to be given responsibility given this was a spring insight program. However, wherever there was an opportunity (for example in team building and presentation activities) we were always given the chance to take some responsibilities.
The skills that I developed will greatly enhance my employability in the future. Presentation skills, financial knowledge and more importantly, the banking structure and jargon of the industry were clarified. The training given was very interactive and of course, was throughly enjoyable.
The Company
We were not in an office, but in a conference hall. The atmosphere was nevertheless, very pleasant.
It was extremely well organised. The whole placement had been well thought out and a schedule had been given to us to ensure that we were kept well informed of the activities we would be taking part in throughout the day.
I definitely felt that HSBC invested heavily in the program and in me personally. We were exposed to a lot of senior members of the organisation who were always available to talk at a later time in the program. HSBC had even hired another organisation to help us develop our networking skills which I think shows the amount of commitment the firm made to the participants of the program.
We were all fast-tracked to the final assessment day for a Summer internship in our penultimate year at university. Opportunities to continue development with the firm were encouraged.
The Culture
We had networking drinks and a dinner over the course of the program which helped develop the social scene.
The cost of living in London is high, but all travel expenses were reimbursed.
Nightlife in london is very good, but there was not much opportunity to explore this over the program.
There really wasn't much mention of this over the program given it was only 3 days.
