The Role
Overall i really did love my placement at L'Oréal, the responsibility you get as an intern is extremely rewarding, i really did learn so much. However, more responsibility did sometimes mean more stress but i was lucky enough to have an incredible and supportive team around me! Even though i definitely did have some tough times i would do it again and again in a heart beat, they really are such an incredible company to work for!
i felt extremely valued which i was surprised about as i definitely went in there with an 'i'm just an intern' mentality but i quickly realised that you are completely treated as an integral part of the team, well this was 100% the case for my team specifically i wouldnt want to generalise across the whole company just incase. But overall everyone i worked with treated me the same as a full time employee and really just wanted to help me learn and experience as much as i could!
To start with the emerging talent team, they were great in the run up to the placement however, once we started i really didnt feel as though i heard from them again at all! I didn't necessarily feel as though i needed extra guidance from them as i had my team around me but maybe a check in half way through the internship could have been beneficial! My team overall was great however my direct manager i did sometimes feel a little bit uncomfortable going to for advice/ support as they could be quite cold at times but i never ever felt a lack of guidance or support overall as i built such great relationships elsewhere.
Once I was well into my placement i could be very busy each day, but i would say it was a comfortable busy! I didnt have any times where i was sitting there with nothing to do but i was still able to take a breather when i needed and finish my working day near enough on time. However, when we had events coming up i would be extremely busy and sometimes it was overwhelming, i found things were usually left until last minute so i did have some very stressful days that were jam packed.
More responsibility than i ever imagined! Leading projects, web pages for new website launches, planning and decorating events, speaking directly to customers and presenting at huge business events! The list could go on and on, so if you really want a high responsibility role for your placement L'Oréal is 100% the place to be.
to the highest extent! i feel as though pretty much all my skills were improved over my time at L'Oréal! I am now extremely confident with using systems like excel and powerpoint, my presenting skills have improved from speaking to much wider audiences with people of a high status! My communication skills have improved massively as i had to speak to and work with people from so many different departments and even external customers and business's that i now feel super confident in my ability to build rapports and get the best out of a working relationship.
The Company
i loved the atmosphere at L'Oréal, it has a very professional nature but coupled with a really nice relaxed, friendly and sociable culture! Everyone is so friendly with eachother and usually on each division everyone knows everyone so when walking around your floor everyone is really engaging and happy to chat. i was super happy and comfortable in the environment as it wasn't too full on and you could really conduct your day and you work schedule however you wanted to whether thats taking yourself off for some quiet time and working up in the canteen or going out to starbucks for a business meeting. The culture and office is 100% one of the best things about working at L'Oréal.
So well organised everything was done for us i barely had to ask any questions as the emerging talent team made everything really straightforward and were super quick in replying to emails or phone calls before the placement started.

Future employment prospects are great, they have a graduate scheme for those who want to experience more of the company as this allows them to do 3 job rotations in different departments and job roles and a talent track scheme for those who feel as though they found their feet in the department and role they want to work in so can go straight into an operational role. Also its made very clear that once you've been at L'Oréal the door is open and the connections are made.
The Culture
Living in London, i wont sugarcoat it, is expensive! Rent is definitely not ideal it was very pricey especially when comparing it to the cost of living as a student at uni for the past 2 years. But the oppourtunity and London itself i just feel is so worth it, if you do it right and live within your means its the most incredible experience and the price i paid is nothing on the memories i now have so its really up to your personal preference.
Drinks after work are a regular occurence!! My team were super active outside of work with activities like miniature golf, cheese and wine nights, retail safaris (going round harrods and covent garden to experience what other companies are doing in retail), meals out, pretty we even did a team bake off! This may be specific to your team but i was super lucky in being able to do lots of activities that werent just about work!
