The Role
My placement working at Box was a fantastic experience. Despite being this role virtually I felt so immersed in the company culture through virtual happy hours, skills workshops, coffee meet ups and events. Box has also allowed me to develop professionally. In this role I was given the responsibility to lead initiatives and projects, with guidance and mentoring on the way.
Box very much has a flat structure there is no sense of hierarchy. I felt like my ideas and thoughts were valid and considered. The company was very true to its value- 'be an owner.' I also loved working with my team they always made me feel welcome, valued and were open to any question!
I was given a very structured and clear onboarding plan for my first month. This was really useful in knowing what my daily and weekly objectives were and also, as I was beginning my placement virtually, it meant from day one my days were structured and had a purpose. After being onboarded I had regular meetings with my manager throughout the week to go through my tasks and projects.
This was a busy role but I loved it being being that way- especially as I was working virtually. I felt very energised by the tasks I had to complete on a daily basis.
Due to being part of a small cohort of placement students, and the only one in recruitment, I was given a lot of responsibility. This was a fantastic learning experience and made me feel like I was personally helping and making an impact in the organisation. However, I did not feel overwhelmed or scared by the responsibility I was given as my manager was there to guide and mentor me.
In my placement at Box I have learnt lots of valuable skills that will help me in my future career. For example I have learnt how best to communicate and deliver presentation, prioritise and organise and communicate with different functions within a business. I have also learnt a lot of skills for working virtually such as organising virtual interview processes and events.
The Company
My placement was virtual but they still made a fun environment (despite everything being online). However the office, from my assessment day, had lots of facilities and social spaces. Also I know when they were in the office that a lot of events were run.
Box was fantastic in developing my personal development. I was allowed to lead initiatives and projects and, as well as my day to day job, work on wider areas of HR that interested me.

Working from home
I would love to come back and work at Box after I graduate! The organisation is constantly developing and there is never a dull moment! Also the culture is fun, inclusive and has amazing employee benefits.
The Culture
Despite being virtual I formed a close friendship group with my fellow placement students. I also had lots of virtual social interaction with my team. We had regular zoom social meetings and outside of work met up in London.
The office is in central London so an expensive area. However, as I was working virtually from home my costs were very low!
Ordinarily London has fantastic and varied night life but as I began this placement during Covid-19 nothing was open!
Again, as I began this placement during Covid-19 no activities were open. However, there was time to do my own personal hobbies and meet ups outside of work hours at home.
