About You
I enjoyed most of the insight week, particularly the days spent in the labs, talking to the staff and helping to complete tasks.
The majority of staff were very friendly and welcoming. I completed work experience in microbiology and chemistry labs and the lab staff all went out of their way to make me feel welcome and answer questions, as well as explaining their day-to-day roles and tasks.
Staff were very helpful and happy to share their journeys to the company, as well as tips for employment.
I think that the lab experience I gained will be very useful when I look for further placements and employment, and the information I received throughout the week has already been useful in deciding which industries my degree will be relevant in and therefore influencing my module choices.
The Company
A rough itinerary was provided on the first day and largely stuck to, with some changes depending on the tasks the staff were carrying out during the week.
Good and light-hearted most of the time, with celebrations for staff anniversaries which contributed to the friendly atmosphere. There were however tensions between a minority of staff and the impression of management pressure to stick to deadlines.
Lots of advice was provided on CVs and the recruitment process.
We were involved in many of the staff's day-to-day tasks and they talked openly about their experiences.
A few talks were given on the company's policies and practices.
The insight week helped me to see which areas of the company I might be able to work in after graduation, as well as how the industry worked more widely.
Everything Else
-
We were able to spend time in the break room with all members of staff, and the effort was made to include time in several areas of the company during the week.
-
Not that I recall.
Yes, the week was enjoyable and I learned a lot about the industry and company.
