About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the virtual experience. The programme was 5 weeks in duration and began with a comprehensive training week. I then spent the remainder of my internship working alongside full-time members of the team. My virtual experience actually may have enabled me to take on more work than usual for an internship. This is because it was often easier for team members to walk me through a task as they were able to explain it over a call.
From the beginning of my internship with Rothschild & Co I was assigned meaningful, value-add tasks from various members of the team. I was regularly given deadlines for this work to be completed and encouraged to reach out to team members upon encountering any difficulties. The work I undertook was often directly used by full-time members and it was very fulfilling to know my contributions were appreciated. I was also regularly encouraged to contribute further and let employees know if I had any suggestions for how a task could be undertaken or improved.
From my first week I was assigned a Buddy and a Mentor, both of whom I actively engaged with throughout my internship. This was very helpful as they each encouraged me to run any questions I may have had by them, either relating to the internship itself or to specific work I was undertaking. Other members of the team were also happy to arrange calls with me to discuss any queries I had relating to work I was completing, and this proved to be very beneficial.
The internship enabled me to greatly develop my commercial awareness, and given I am studying Finance this will undoubtedly stand to me in my degree going forward. Excel was also a prominent feature of the work I undertook with Rothschild & Co, and our training programme devoted significant time to developing our skills with this application. I anticipate this will likely be of use for a number of modules I am set to undertake in final year.
The Company
My virtual internship with Rothschild & Co was structured extremely well. Our first week of the programme was dedicated to training and this helped ensure we had many of the necessary skills ahead of joining our teams for the remaining 4 weeks. Following on from that my Team Lead regularly ensured I was receiving a sufficient amount of work throughout the internship while also not being inundated. I found that I was constantly busy and also involved in a wide variety of tasks, this enabled me to gain broad insight into the work the team undertakes.
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with Rothschild & Co. From the beginning, as interns, we were made to feel like valued members of the team. Each of the team members I worked alongside were happy to assist me with any queries I had, and they each regularly checked in with me throughout the duration of my internship. As an intern, I was also regularly encouraged to contribute ideas and suggestions while undertaking work and attending team meetings.
