    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • I really enjoyed the experience! Despite the program being virtual I still interacted a lit with my team, got to work on deals, and even got to join in and take notes on client calls. The team did a great job of getting me involved in things early on. I always had a lot to do and was never waiting around for work. They also pair you with a senior mentor from another team which was great to have.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • As an intern I got to work on a wide variety of projects. I could really tell the team was making an effort to get me involved in as many things as possible. All of my work was working on deals or projects for the team and everyone from analyst through to MD ended up taking the time to explain things to me or guide me through my task at some time during the internship.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • I received a lot of support through the entire program. Each intern was paired with a senior member from another team to act as their mentor. This was helpful to have someone to talk to and it also enabled you to gain exposure and ask questions about other teams at the firm. HR also had calls to check in with us and see how we were doing. Overall it was clear that they made an effort to ensure we were enjoying the program

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Since all the work was working on actual deals and projects within the team, I think that this was a great learning experience for anyone interested in IB. I got to work on everything from pitch-books, and team projects to other more specific things clients needed for the deal process. Within the first week alone I had a better understanding of how the firm operates and what working as an analyst is like. Definitely learned and got exposed to a lot very quickly.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The program was extremely well structured and HR did an amazing job making the transition online successful. We had a week of training in the beginning complete with excel and valuation skills workshops. When we hit the desk with our team everyone was assigned a buddy and senior mentor to ensure they had support. There were calls to check in from HR half way through the program. HR was very well organized and let people know if they converted on the last day.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • Everyone at the firm was really nice and though busy would take the time to chat with you. Despite the program being virtual, I still feel like I got to know my team. From what I observed the culture is collegiate and friendly. Everyone seems to get along and are genuinely nice people. There also seems to be a relatively flat structure to deal teams and I think this is because they are quite lean at the firm. Everyone seems to want juniors to get great exposure early on.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had training workshops on excel and valuation before hitting the desk with our teams. While on the desk it was clear people took a lot of time to answer questions and explain things to me as I did my work.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Even though it was virtual, I left the program with a good sense of the firms culture, feeling like I knew my team, and having a good understanding of what a full time role would be like. I was constantly calling and messaging people from my team throughout the program and got a good sense into the team and firm culture. Since they got me involved on deal work so early on, I also feel I had a lot of time to see what the actual work was like.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Aside from presentations in the first week, I was able to understand the company culture through regular communication with my team and weekly conversations with my mentor. Everyone at the firm is open and happy to take the time to chat with you and talk about their experience. Everything about the firm was really positive and I walked away from the internship with a good sense of culture and feeling like I would be a good fit there.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I started working on deals immediately after hitting the desk with my team and was kept very busy throughout the program. I feel I got an excellent insight into what a career in IB is like.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Interns were paid their salary, any holidays untaken, meal allowance per day, and given a stipend to buy monitors for a work from home set up. Interns were also given laptops to facilitate the virtual experience

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Was obviously harder to organize this due to the coronavirus but each intern was given a mentor from another team.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • HR did q good job designing the first week so that there were virtual activities to meet other interns. Because the program was virtual, there were no social events or in-person opportunities but everyone I met from the firm was more than willing to talk.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There was a mention of a firm sports league and volunteering programs

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • The program was really well organized and I got a lot of exposure in a short amount of time. I enjoyed the culture and everyone I met at the firm seemed like a genuinely nice person. I also appreciate that HR ran the process very smoothly and efficiently. All interns knew if they had full time offers on the last day which was really appreciated.
