About You
It was a great experience, especially during such a tough period. Although, it was a different experience to what an in-office internship would be like, we were able to take other benefits out of this format. There was more interaction with global offices and a lot of senior exposure throughout the programme.
The bank put a lot of time into the programme and we were able to engage with employees from both a junior and senior level. They put a lot of thought into the different sessions and very senior people would take time out of their day to have long conversations and answer any questions and provide advice.
There were several points of contact including a junior buddy, a manger, a head manager as well as a HR contact. Several catch-ups were had with all of our contacts throughout the programme so any questions could be answered.
External trainers were brought in so we were able to enhance our technical / financial skills as well as the softer skills including communicating in a virtual setting. We were able to put this into practice through our presentations and individual networking with colleagues
The Company
Each day had a number of training sessions and speaker sessions with both senior and junior employees. There were various group and individual tasks to complete to keep ourselves busy. The whole programme was very well planned out.
Everyone was extremely friendly and open to having a conversation with us. DB put a strong emphasis on issues like diversity and mental health which really shone through to the speaker sessions and programmes they have implemented. It is a bank that clearly cares about sustainability and their employees!
The bank invested time in organising sessions with senior leaders who would talk to us about the various products and services. They also hired trainers to talk us through the bank, its history, different lines of business as well as developing our softer skills.
We were given an understanding of what day-to-day activities would be and what a general career path would look like. As we were not able to shadow employees like a normal internship, it was slightly tougher through a virtual environment.
Very much so, we were able to see which areas Deutsche Bank truly care about through the various sessions. The way both junior and senior employees communicated and took time out showed the type of culture that has been instilled into the company.
The internship was a great gateway into understanding that finance is something I want to get into going forward. It's fast-paced nature is something that I found very appealing and the steep learning curve was challenging but very fun!
Everything Else
Paid similar to competitors
Some networking sessions organised by the bank but a lot was through my own initiative and using my immediate network to meet new people
Different due to the virtual environment but there were plenty of opportunities to network with both interns and employees
There were a number of activities that were showcased, however it would of been good to have a bigger spotlight shone on this area.
Definitely!
