About You
I thought it had a really good mix of teaching us about the workplace and what kind of environment we would work in while also trying to teach us the skills that would be found valuable and necessary to get a job in such an environment
The online experience made it feel less personable, as it ended up being just online tasks. This was offset by the webinars that were run which helped bring it back to us, however the lack of any 1 on 1 interactions made this difficult.
Very helpful webinars teaching us what to do to improve our chances for summer internships, forums for questions which the people running the internship answered frequently. Overall lots of support was given.
There were lessons in cybersecurity and javascript, both of which were completely new to me and gave me a head start on year two studies in university, as well as being good general skills to have as a software engineer.
The Company
We were given tasks at the beginning of the week to do by the end of the week, so not much structure in the tasks we were given. The only structure was in the webinars - they were very stuctured and always started on time.
Not much atmosphere at all during the week, as we did not meet any of the fellow interns, however the speakers were all very positive and welcoming, and the people assisting with the events were helpful.
Pre-Covid, they were willing to pay for housing and food during the week, as well as tours. Although this didn't end up happening, the idea that they would go to that extent was impressive and showed a level of investment.
They gave good talks on how the company works, good insight into the different jobs available and a tour of the office to show us how it is all laid out. Probably done as well as it could be online.
It helped us understand how everyone interacted and fit in fairly decently through personal anecdotes from the speakers and the virtiual tour.
It didn't change much on how I thought about my future, only solidified how to make it possible, which is extremely helpful.
Everything Else
Didn't feel like payment was necessary as it was them teaching us, in the end we didn't do anything to assist the company and so payment wasn't something needed.
As it wasn't in person, many of the opportunities we may have had to meet others werent there, so I feel like in this area they were severely lacking. However, I am sure this is only an issue as it was online.
As stated before, this was online entirely and so they were not really there. I am unsure how they could have implemented this online however.
While it may have been mentioned in passing, no importance was placed on it, so I don't think this was mentioned or built upon.
Yes I would, very useful and gives a lot of opportunities for the future. The tasks were important and the staff was helpful.
