    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • Overall, I found the virtual experience really inspiring, interesting and engaging. Despite being online and therefore not in the office, I felt that I was able to learn a lot more about Investment Banking, and also, able to interact with a variety of bankers from the firm. The experience was well organised and I felt that the programme allowed me to learn a lot more about Rothschild's renowned culture in a supportive and collaborative environment.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The firm's friendly and collegiate culture made the internship extremely exciting and I was able to learn lots whilst feeling valued. Despite the programme being virtual, I found the experience very engaging and collaborative and I enjoyed networking with a variety of bankers who were able to answer questions. In particular, I found the buddy system very useful as I was able to ask a variety of questions and learn more about Rothschild's culture and business.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • Throughout the internship there was so much guidance and support and I always felt that I was able to reach out if I had any questions. The recruitment team provided copious amounts of information and were always prompt in responding to any questions we had. Also, during the technical learning presentations (such as the M&A Walkthrough and the Fitch Learning presentation) we were able to ask various questions and this certainly made the experience seem more collaborative, and also, more engaging.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The internship not only enabled me to develop crucial skills that I will take forward in my future internships, but also, the experience confirmed my interest in Investment Banking. In particular, I found the Fitch learning very useful to give a brief overview of some technical knowledge necessary for Investment Banking and I heavily enjoyed the preparation for the assessment centre. The whole experience allowed me to gain a great understanding of some technical skills and helped me prepare for the assessment centre at the end of the internship.

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The experience was very well structured and the timetable was well set up to given the fact that it was online. Throughout the week we were notified of the timetable and provided well in advance of the different talks, presentations and networking sessions allowing the programme to run very swiftly. In particular, I liked the addition of online fitness classes that we were able to attend and the variety of talks (for instance the Rothschild & Co. history presentation by the archives team).

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • I found the experience very positive and interesting and, despite not being in the office, I felt like I was able to learn more about the firm's unique culture and more about Investment Banking. Overall, I found the virtual internship very engaging and I believe the internship provided me with the perfect balance of learning more about the firm's culture and more about Investment Banking whilst learning in a supportive, collegiate and intellectually stimulating environment.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Throughout the programme we were able to ask a lot of questions which allowed us to learn more, but also, the Fitch learning enabled us to develop a brief understanding of some of the technical skills required to be an analyst. In addition, there was an M&A walkthrough by the Healthcare team which provided not only a technical overview, but also, a discussion of M&A deals and the transaction process. The variety of presentations throughout the programme certainly allowed me to deepen my knowledge not only regarding M&A, but also, in restructuring and other divisions.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The virtual experience has certainly allowed me to confirm my interest in Investment Banking and the variety of presentations enabled me to not only learn more about the different divisions within the firm, but also, to learn a lot more about Rothschild's uniquely collaborative, friendly and inclusive culture. I found the programme very engaging, informative and inspiring and I feel that it provided me with a greater understanding of what an analyst's role is within the Global Advisory division.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Throughout the virtual internship I was able to learn a lot more about the firm's renowned culture. The programme certainly portrayed the firms's inclusive, friendly and collaborative culture, but also, it allowed me to experience the firm's renowned expertise through the various presentations as we were able to network and learn from the firm's bankers. The combination of networking opportunities, presentations, social events, and the archives presentation demonstrated the firm's renowned dedication to providing thoughtful, principled and creative solutions for over 200 years and I really enjoyed learning more about the history of the firm.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The programme provided a lot of information with regards to Investment Banking through a variety of presentations from different divisions. I found this very interesting and it allowed me to learn a lot more, but also, it helped confirm my interest in Global Advisory. In particular, I found the M&A team project really engaging as we were able to undertake our own research to prepare and present an M&A deal to a panel of bankers. This experience certainly allowed me to realise how interesting and dynamic the industry is and has definitely helped me to confirm my interest.

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, throughout the week there were several opportunities to meet and network with other employees through the coffee meetings we had whereby there were 2 bankers paired with a few interns. This allowed us to speak and network with a variety of bankers and allowed us to learn a lot more about the firm from first-hand experience. Also, throughout the presentations during the internship we were able to ask questions and this enabled us to interact with other employees.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Throughout the programme I felt there was a perfect balance between social events (such as a quiz) and networking events as we had several coffee meetings. This not only allowed me to feel like I was able to learn more about Rothschild's culture, but also, it allowed me to feel part of the team and part of the intern class despite the programme being virtual. Also, I really liked the opportunity to join in on fitness classes.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, the internship provided a variety of talks on the different activities that Rothschild employees can get involved in outside of work. I really enjoyed learning about the different sports and activities that there are as it helped me learn more about the opportunities that Rothschild offers, but also, it enabled me to feel more immersed in the internship as we were provided with lots of information that enabled me to really learn about Rothschild's renowned culture.

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • 100%. The programme was extremely interesting and engaging and I really felt that I was able to learn a lot more about Global Advisory whilst feeling part of a firm that not only value's intelligence and intellectual curiosity, but also, a firm that embraces a diverse, inclusive, supportive and collegiate environment. Despite being virtual, I definitely felt part of the team and was able to feel very immersed in the firm's culture whilst learning from a variety of bankers.
