    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement year and the tasks I was involved in. I felt extremely valued and supported by everyone I worked with. The team were very welcoming allowing me to feel part of the team. I worked on a variety of interesting tasks and was given a various of roles which helped me develop my understanding and knowledge of planning in practice. I was never short of work and was given prior notice of the tasks which will be given. The knowledge I have gained throughout this year will stand me in good stead for my final year at university. Overall I found my placement year hugely beneficial, and Arup being a brilliant company to work for.

  • My supervisors were extremely supportive in all tasks I was given. I felt very comfortable asking for help as they were always willing to assist and took time out of their day to explain tasks and give guidance. • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I worked on various projects throughout my placement year and very rarely was sat looking for additional work. I was given notice regarding the tasks they would like me to complete as well as the amount of time which should be spent completing them. This allowed me to prioritize work and plan plan my week accordingly.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel the tasks and roles given were very fitting with the current knowledge and understanding I have. However, throughout my placement year as my knowledge and confidence grew, so did the responsibility I was given. I worked on tasks which were challenging allowing me to develop and gain the essential skills needed as a planning consultant.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Throughout my placement year I had to complete various assessments for university. Not only did the skills and training I received help greatly in completing these, the tasks and projects I worked on throughout the year are very relatable to the content of my degree. This allowed me to make the connection between the theory and practice of planning which is hugely beneficial when completing my final year of my degree.
