The Role
I really enjoyed my summer internship within the Investment banking division even though the initial length of the internship got shortened. i enjoyed the team, the culture of the firm and learned a lot of things (soft as well as hard skills) from all my colleagues and seniors. There were several events during the internship so that we could build bonds and relationships between each interns, and get to know the culture of the firm.
I definitely fell like i was adding value to my team and that my short stay within the team was useful. I learned a lot of knowledge during my stay and got really interested in the industry i covered. All the team members were open, nice, and ready to help whenever i had a question and they would always make sure to explain each task being asked so that i would understand the rational behind the projects.
I believe that management and supervisors from JP Morgan were definitely supportive before, during and after my internship. I had regular calls scheduled with my supervisors even though they have a very busy schedule so that we could talk about my professional project and tell me more about their experience. Each supervisors were extremely open and keen on grabbing a coffee chat to get to know each other even though we didn't necessarily work in the same team. The atmosphere was wonderful !
Some days were definitely longer than others. But it's definitely great how JP Morgan tries very hard to create a good work life balance even for investment banking analysts. As i was put on several projects, it was sometimes difficult to finish each project and make sure that everything was sent on time but i could always count on the help of my team to try and see if the workload was fine on my side.
I was given a lot of responsability during my internship and that's why i learned a lot even though the internship was short. I was able to work on a lot of different projects and i could tell that my colleagues were happy to give me projects with higher responsability as they were happy with my deliverables. However, because of the short length of the internship this year due to covid i was not able to work on deals which was a bit sad.
As i am specializing in corporate finance and have a lot of classes on mergers and acquisitions the skill set i acquired during this internship definitely helps me a lot. I have a better understand of a company's strategy, how to build a business plan, how to valuate a company. It definitely allowed me to be able to also put into practice what i had started to learn in theory but also develop what i have learned in class.
The Company
The atmosphere was truly positive and fun ! Not a single day was boring, and I loved getting to know my team members. Everyone got along with everyone and all the team members did their best in trying to get to know each of us interns and get us integrated as much as possible in the team. Overall, it was a very friendly atmosphere, people being kind and willing to help you whenever you needed help and always willing to crack a joke. Great feeling !
The internship set up was truly exceptional. I was actually kind of skeptical at before the beginning of the internship especially in such health crisis time, having to work from home, social distancing etc. However the HR as well as the team I joined did everything to make this experience unforgettable ! From IT, trainings to joing the desk, everything was very well thought and perfectly organized to make this internship the best for us interns. And for that I would like to thank everyone for the amazing organization they did, that must have taken a lot of time !
I think that the company definitely invested a lot of time in training us not only at the beginning of the internship but also throughout the weeks so that we would be able to continuously make progress and become better. From technical trainings, to team specific trainings and the different feedback calls we would have so that we could take a step back at what we had done and be able to improve ourselves. The summer internship may only have gone through a few weeks, but I truly think I have improved tremendously during these weeks and I am thankful for all the people I have met there.

Future employments prospects within J.P. Morgan are very appealing. Going from very interesting job description, fantastic team organization, out going team members, incredible work placement perks. I would definitely encourage anyone to apply to the firm. I believe that J.P. Morgan is an organization that takes great importance in making their employees grow and develop them throughout all their career. The working environment coupled with the firm's reputation and the interesting work we do, being able to work there is definitely an exceptional experience
The Culture
There was definitely a very good social scene amongst fellow placement students. Very good atmostphere, everyone was friendly and very fun to be with. Despite the sanitary crisis and working from home environment, we would still organize weekly zoom calls to chat together and even keep ourselves enterntained while we would be working. Some would be grabbing a beer during our calls and it was definitely a great bonding time ! There really was a bond between us and we would help each others' out !
Canary wharf is a financial center so in terms of cost of living, it is kind of expensive and with most of the building being working buildings, outside of working hours socializing in the area is not that easy. However there are definitely good restaurants and bars that where you can grab a beer with your colleagues, other work placement students and socialize together ! And the pay does support the cost of living in the area.
Having worked from home most of the tile and working in IB, you are workings lots of hours that's for sure. So in terms of nightlife in the area I am not particularly familiar with it and don't really have an opinion on it. Even though i've seen great restaurants and bars with good atmosphere, that's for sure ! There are definitely things to do in the evening if you are looking to socialize with your colleagues or get to know new people!
Outside of work, there were definitely many opportunities to get involved in activities even in between our hectic busy schedule working in IB. The firm organizes a lot of events, the team organized lots of team building events as well. There are a lot of activities you can do within the firm, such as going to the gym before and after wroking hours for example or even during lunch break. You can take part to an association that you find very interesting !
