About You
I enjoyed the insight to a very great extent. The Spring Week programme in the Technology division has been my first hands-on experience in which I had the possibility to actually understand the functioning mechanisms of the industry and I admire how J.P. Morgan proved itself to represent the best and brightest future in the big data industry. Having taken part in such a thrilling and stimulating experience triggers my already deep curiosity towards the division in the firm.
I felt valued during my time at the firm to a moderate extent. Having taken part to the programme, in the Technology division, virtually has obviously influenced the way us interns and the Insight planners could interact. Both the experiences with Inside Sherpa and Secure Code Warrior provided solutions, and feedbacks in such a way we could receive an efficient evaluation; however, I felt the weight of not being able to receive a one-to-one evaluation and establish in person connections which I think is fundamental.
I think I did not receive much guidance or support during the insight. Having taken part to the programme, in the Technology division, virtually has obviously influenced the way us interns and the Insight planners could interact. In my personal opinion is fundamental having a mentor and someone t relate to in difficulty situations and I felt the weight of not being able to establish this kind of connection in person and receiving a one-to-one support.
The skills developed and the information received can assist me in my degree studies and beyond to a moderate extent. Being the first hands-on experience I faced since the beginning of my studies it has been quite difficult to catch up with the challenges at first, but after becoming a bit more comfortable with the tasks and the hack-a-ton, I think the skills I developed and the received information play a moderate role in my degree studies and how I approach new experiences.
The Company
In my personal opinion the insight was well structured. The hack-a-ton was intriguing and stimulating and the data visualisation with perspective program was straight-forward and it provided some help when requested (even if the response time was not very efficient). However, I think the lack of the possibility of establishing connections, having the possibility of networking one-to-one and being able to personally meet peers and supervisors is important in an experience as important as the Spring Week Insight.
In my personal opinion the atmosphere during the insight was stimulating, intriguing and motivational. Every person involved, being peer or supervisor, transmitted enthusiasm and desire to learn/transmit knowledge in the industry. I think the hack-a-ton gave a little bit of feeling of competition, which is even more stimulating and the data visualization program helped gaining a deeper understanding of how data is visualized with perspective. However, I would have enjoyed more living the experience in person and actually feeling the competition, motivation and stimulation in person.
Speaking in terms of personal training and development, I think the firm invested in me to a very small extent. Living the experience virtually has of course influenced the mechanisms and the organization of the programme; however, I would have preferred some one-to-one interaction moments in which I could express my impressions and obtain personal advices and recommendations on my work. Feedback is important in this kind of experiences and I feel that I did not receive any and I don't have any perception of how I have been evaluated (if I have been).
I think the insight helped me understanding what it would be like to have a full time role with the company to a very small extent. I absolutely loved hearing about the veterans' experiences in the firm and in the industry; however, I feel that I did not gain an understanding of the mechanisms and what having a full time role with the firm would be like. I would have preferred having a more specific presentation on the actual presentation of the job opportunities in the firm.
The insight helped me understanding the company organizational culture to a very great extent. The introduction to the insight programme for the Technology division had many employees talk about their career path, their personal experience in the firm and how they relate to the culture of J.P. Morgan. I am truly impressed by the inclusiveness of the firm and the number of programs organized in order to embrace everyone dealing with a wide range of people.
I think that the content provided in order to help me decide on my future career path is valuable to a certain extent. I would have preferred that the possible roles, growth and personal development possibilities and career paths available were better explained and presented. Moreover, we did not have the possibility to ask every question in our minds or specific curiosity since, after having submitted them, only a few were selected and received explanations.
Everything Else
Since the experience took place virtually, us interns did not get the opportunity to network and meet in person other employees of the firm.
I did not receive any information about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work. Everything that was presented to us interns was work related and mainly presentations by employees on their career path and their personal experiences, which was great and inspiring; however I would have preferred receiving more information on what activities I could potentially get involved with.
I would absolutely recommend this insight experience to a friend, especially if the experience does take place in person and not virtually. The activities organized, the challenges and the hack-a-ton have been motivating, challenging and stimulated the feeling of competition. However, the feeling of getting to know in person the role, the industry, the firm, the employees and the peers is irreplaceable and even if the schedule was rich and filled with interesting things, I missed living the experience in person.
