    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a wonderful experience to hear from MDs, VPs, CEO, CFI. It was very inspirational, all the people that have talked to us were very supportive and the fact that I could send an email to anyone in the company for a quick 15 minute introduction meeting only made this experience more exciting. Working with other interns was an amazing experience, yet I would like to also work within a team in the company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All the interns were very friendly and the managers were very welcoming, the recruiters were the best, as they were answering us every question we had, and guided us through this virtual experience. As i was part of an interns team and not part of a large real team that works at J P Morgan, I did not have many colleagues in order to give an accurate representation of the people that work at J P Morgan.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support that I was given from my manager/supervisor was not what I expected. I am saying this because I compared my manager to the other managers and my manager was not as sociable as the other managers. And the reason was that my manager's schedule was very busy and there was not enough time to hang out. Also, the fact that it was virtual did not help at all the situation. . . .

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Unfortunately, we were given only 2.5 weeks to implement our ideas, and because we wanted to have a complete project by the end of the internship and before the presentations, we were very busy. This was common among other teams too, and it has not allowed us, from my point of view, to be able to participate in many other activities in the company. However, some teams were perfectly fine with their project and their time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given some responsibilities, such as working on a project and making sure that this work was efficient and was done on time. There not as many leadership opportunities as it was in the previous years without the covid 19 pandemic. The main responsibility was to myself that I had to get things done in order to get a full-time offer for the next year. Also, I was given the responsibility of doing presentations, which of course I had to be great as I was representing my team and I.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed mainly technical skills such as Java, Python and web development skills. I received a lot of training that introduced us to the firm. All the skills that I have developed will definitely assist me in my degree studies and beyond, because I developed communication and writing skills, skills needed for presentations and be part of a team. However, I do believe we could have given more time in the internship, instead of just 5 weeks.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was with one word: chill. Because people were working from home , the atmosphere was quite comfy that allowed us to come closer , even though we were miles apart. The first half of the internship was a great experience and differed from the second half , because then there was some tension to finish the project on time , prepare presentations , socialize , attend virtual events and so on .

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The recruiters did a fantastic job , they organized many exciting meetings and talks that gave us a good insight of how the industry works and how great the J P Morgan company is. They set up many new technologies so that us interns could join them virtually only with our laptop and good wifi. All in all , the organization was excellent , I hope they continue like that so can attract more students .

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company has given us access to many online learning facilities that allows us to learn about anything and not just about the thing that we are working on. Also, the company organizes many events , that focus on mental health , exercise , public speaking and many other stuff. And during the covid 19 pandemic these events were moved virtually , thus everyone could participate without hesitation . A priority of J P Morgan is the self development of its employees.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst my fellow interns was surprisingly polite and fun . People wanted to help other people and this was one of the reasons that J P Morgan has the best culture compared to all the other companies in Finance and the Banking sector. This amazing good social scene was introduced first by the recruiters, who did at incredible job setting up meetings and events , so that interns could get to know each other.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was almost non-existent because of the covid 19 pandemic, yet J P Morgan had organized many events for its interns such as Game night, Quiz night and many more. A lot of interns have made acquaintances from these games. Also, I believe the best part from the game nights , was the fact that we were matched in teams with random teams , which gave us the opportunity to know with other interns and have fun.
