The Role
I enjoyed it a lot, I had a wonderful intern team and my manager and her team were amazing as well. It was only 5 weeks, so was not too long, but I feel like we had a really insightful experience. It was also all online. Although, I would have preferred it to be in-person, but for obvious reasons, it was not, which I totally understand. All in all, I really enjoyed and I am happy to go back.
I feel like I was valued a lot. Everyone was interested in my opinion and was really helpful as well if I had any questions. I had a mentor, a manager and buddy as well, which is three sources of help, but we, team members also helped each other a lot. It was really easy to reach out to anyone as well. I had several meetings with Executive Directors from different divisions too and they were all so friendly and helpful.
I received all information I needed. All of my questions were received happily and I felt so lucky that I actually can ask questions without feeling ashamed at all. I was really scared in the beginning about what if I have a question and I cannot ask it and then I cannot work properly, but this fear quickly disappeared, when I experienced J.P. Morgan's culture on the first week. Everyone was really friendly and there was a safe space created in which we, interns were free to ask literally any questions.
It was really busy in the 4th week, otherwise it was okay. The first week was a bit busy too, because of all the information sessions. Otherwise it was really manageable, and to be honest, I only had to overtime on like 2 days, not more. I could always finish my daily tasks until 5pm and I was really glad with it, because I have heard it is not the case in other companies (interns overtime in other places a lot).
I was shown what my internal team is working on, I attended their daily UTM meeting, so I was given responsibility by being included in confidential meetings. My other form of responsibility was to deliver a project (not fully finished, obviously, because we only had 4 weeks to work on it) for a charity which is also big. All in all, I think I was given a lot of responsibility which I really liked. I liked how J.P. Morgan trusts us, interns.
I have a subject called Professional Software Development this year, on which we literally study the same concepts as we did on our J.P. Morgan trainings. We study about scrum meetings, the agile approach and team structures, and so on. I feel so lucky, because I can use all my knowledge now at uni too and I am certain it will help me get a better grade. So to answer the question, the trainings assist me a lot.
The Company
The general atmosphere was amazing!!! I had such beautiful people as my team members! I feel like we actually became friends. On Fridays, we organised some team building meetings where we played several games and got to know each other more. I can say all of my teammates were really interesting people too! On the other side, my manager's team was amazing too, we also played a lot of team building games and I also liked how great sense of humour they have!
I think it was really well organised. I always had something to do in my schedule, and I never had those empty hours / days. The only thing that bothered me is that they put the global round of the secure code warrior tournament on the 4th week which was the busiest, thus, I could not finish my exercises for the competition. I think it would have been better to put it on the last week, because it was much more chill thank the week before.
The company invested in me a lot, I feel like. My salary was really competitive and we also got a lot of bonuses (for example, relocation fee, even though we did not have relocate due to covid 19). We also received a lot of trainings and insight and I actually felt like I am a long-term investment of the company. It made me feel really good and important. I have heard it is also worse in other companies, especially banks.

It seemed to be appealing! As I have mentioned, I was talking to managers from different divisions and they and my mentors said it is really easy to progress.
The Culture
Yes, definitely. As I have mentioned, we played a lot of games together and we also developed some insight jokes! We wanted to plan a meeting so that we all see each other in person, but we postponed it to when Covid is not a threat anymore. Hopefully this time is gonna come soon, because I really want to meet them in person! I am really curious about their vibe and how different it will be from meeting on zoom.
The socializing actually did not really exist to be honest, because everything was closed due to Covid 19. Furthermore, all my friends are international from the university, so they all went home after the university term finished. I think it would have been better if there was not for Covid 19, because some of my friends would have stayed here and would have looked for jobs too. I just hope it will get better for next year.
It was dead, because it was Covid 19. Otherwise, it would have been moderate with flat parties, because I live in the West End of Glasgow and not the city centre which is quite hectic.
No, we did not have further opportunities, because it was online and we were not allowed to meet in person. We had some quizzes and talks which were fun and useful, but we did not have other get-togethers.
