    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I felt that my internship with J.P. Morgan was a thoroughly engaging and rewarding experience. I was made to feel part of a strong team from day one and that my contribution - no matter how small - was appreciated by even the senior members of my team. I know that I learned a lot, both in training and on the desk, and that skills I developed over the course of the internship will certainly equip me for the Full Time Analyst programme.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by all members of my team throughout the duration of my internship. Every member of my team took time out of their busy schedules to speak to me and to explain their roles within the team. The analysts and associates were patient and spent time explaining each task at hand, while the more senior people in the team helped me to develop my understanding of the key drivers of value in the Real Estate sector, enriching my internship experience further.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was patient, understanding and inspiring. He took the time to check in on me regularly during the internship to monitor my professional development and answer any questions that I might have. He also shared some of his experiences from the sector with me in order to make sure my understanding of the financial concepts that I was applying in my day-to-day work was thorough. My team 'buddy' was also very helpful in helping me through each task and suggesting ways to improve.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The summer internship kept me very busy and the role was demanding but rewarding. From the first week on the desk, I was put on a number of live task to help with the work that was to be prepared for the team's RE FTSE 350 clients. I was given the responsibility alongside one other analyst and one executive director to produce a 'blob' model for the Hammerson rights issue which took me right up to the end of the internship. When I was not working on client work, I had to prepare for my case study.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a surprising amount of responsibility during my internship placement.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that the skills I have developed during the summer internship at J.P. Morgan will help me to launch my career in finance. The internship enabled me to greatly improve my technical and financial modelling skills by drawing on tools such as Excel, Factset, Sharks and PitchPro+. I also developed an appreciation for the 'soft skills' required when working with a team and enhanced my presentation skills through my preparation of my case study.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Although there was a good team atmosphere at J.P. Morgan, this summer we did not attend events in the office and I am, therefore, unable to comment on the general atmosphere in the office.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think that, given the constraints Covid-19 placed on HR when designing the 2020 internship placement and the amount of time they had to convert the internship to a remote internship, the internship was extremely well organised.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • J.P. Morgan was fantastic in terms of their investment in personal training and development for the Investment Banking Summer Analyst programme. We spent over a week with Financial Edge training in financial modeling, corporate finance, valuation and M&A. Beyond the official training week, our managers focused on our personal development during the internship through weekly feedback sessions.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am thrilled to be returning in 2021 for a full time investment banking analyst role - the future employment prospects with J.P. Morgan look bright.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Again, I think that due to the remote nature of the internship, it is difficult to comment on the social scene amongst fellow interns. Although that said, we have all kept in touch post internship through social media and made the best of a difficult remote working situation.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living and socialising in the area I worked in is irrelevant to the internship programme since it was remote this year.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area I worked in is irrelevant to the internship programme this year due to Covid-19.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • J.P. Morgan were sure, in spite of the remote nature of our work, to put on many senior speaker events and encouraged us to get involved in some of the business resource groups across J.P. Morgan.
