Insight week participant Review

The technology spring insight week was an incredible experience. Although the original event was cancelled J.P. Morgan managed to successfully and elegantly deliver a valuable experience. The welcome talks by senior officers were extraordinary as the gave tremendous insight on the inner workings of such a large institution that is J.P. Morgan. Furthermore the virtual software engineer internship and secure code warrior tournament allowed for us participants to apply our knowledge and skills in an interactive and exciting manner.

Although the original event was in person, the virtual alternative was carried out seamlessly. During welcome talks and webinars participants frequently asked questions and the staff made sure these were responded before the end of the session. During the secure code tournament I felt valued by J.P. Morgan as they had organized prizes for those who achieved good results. At the end of the event the organizers guided us through the application process for the 2021 summer internship and gave us recognition for our work during the spring insight week.

During the technology spring insight week at J.P. Morgan the event organizers constantly guided us participants through our task. During the welcome talks and webinars, the chat system allowed participants to ask questions whenever needed and the organizers made sure they were responded before the end of the event. Throughout our practical task the teams who organized such task were also very helpful in guiding us through them and at the end of the event the organizers guided us through the application process for the 2021 summer internship and gave us recognition for our work during the spring insight week.

As a spring week intern I feel that most of the skills/knowledge I have learned throughout the insight week will be a of great value to me. During the secure code tournament I expanded my knowledge on cyber security and secure coding that will be valuable not only for a job at J.P. Morgan or a similar institution but also for creating my own personal projects and potential businesses. The virtual software engineering internship motivated me to expand my skillset with python and apply it to practical scenarios.

The spring insight program was very well structured. Giving participants a good understanding of the events in the week ahead during the welcome talk. Following on we had the next 3 days to complete two task which were the virtual software engineering internship and the secure code tournament which was more than enough. Finally on the last day we attended a webinar on what working at the technology sector at J.P. Morgan would be like followed by a guidance for the summer internship application which is the next step in preparing for a career at J.P. Morgan.

The atmosphere was friendly and the organizers made sure that we were settling in well even thought the event had been changed to a virtual experience. Participants were allowed to frequently ask questions during webinars which created a friendly and open atmosphere. During the secure code tournament participants competed against each other to win certain prizes which generated a competitive environment and motivated me to do as well as I could during the secure code tournament.

Every event during this program revolved around working at J.P. Morgan full time. The webinars form senior officers and the event organizers gave great insight on the skills/mindset necessary to thrive in such an institution, independent of the sector. The practical activities allowed us participants to apply our current knowledge and skills to real life practical scenarios such as developing secure code. During virtual software engineering internship we developed a platform that would dynamically display the relationship between two stocks.

Although the main part of the spring insight week consisted on practical task. The insight program provided numerous webinars from senior officers where the explained there experiences working at J.P. Morgan and building their careers there. Theses events were also very interactive and we were allowed to ask questions to the speakers to gain further insight. The event organizers also gave us participants a lot of insight to help understand company culture as they explained their experience working at J.P Morgan

The content in this spring insight program provided great insight in deciding my future career path. The events were diverse ranging from webinars from senior officers who work in the technology sector to practical coding tournaments between participants. The webinars provided insight in what it would be like to work at J.P. Morgan or a similar institution and the practical helped in understanding what skills and knowledge is required to work in the technology industry as a software developer.

The J.P. Morgan spring into technology insight week not only provided activities during the program dates but also gave us links to attend extra webinars from more guest speakers in the following weeks after the end of the program. These events provided further insight on working at J.P. Morgan or a similar institution. Moreover participants were able to sign up to a news letter where we are are sent articles and events hosted by J.P. Morgan relevant to our career interest.

I would most certainly recommend this insight to a friend as it is the perfect way to start a career at J.P. Morgan on any other similar institution. This spring insight program is intended for 1st or 2nd year university students and the value of the knowledge and insight gained during the spring program at such an early stage in your studies gives a significant advantage to those who attend the insight program for further opportunities with J.P. Morgan or similar institutions whether it is for a summer internship or a graduate scheme.
