    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the insight spring week at jp morgan. it was a fantastic opportunity to learn about how each division of the firm operates: including asset management, wealth management, investment banking, markets (incl. DCM, ECM, etc), sales and trading and many more! Through the help of fitch learning, we were given quite but in-depth masterclasses on each division. we also had the ability to type any questions we had which were then answered by the teacher.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During the insight spring week programme at jp morgan, we had the ability to ask the teacher from fitch learning any questions during and after each session. At the end of the spring week programme, there was also a panel discussion with employee representing lines of businesses across the firm. they spoke about their roles and guided us through what it's like to work at the firm and answered any questions we had about the internship and the culture of the firm. The support would've been better if we were all assigned a mentor/buddy from a line of business.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Overall, the programme was well structured and well organised. Each day, we had a teaching session from fitch learning, ranging from: asset management, wealth management, investment banking, markets (incl. DCM, ECM, etc), sales and trading and many more! Then we had keynote speakers from senior roles across various lines of businesses. Finally, on the last day, we had a panel discussion with employees from across the firm who then answered any questions about the bank and their roles. to improve the structure, perhaps we could have a buddy we reported to every day to ask more personal questions

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • during the spring insight week with jp morgan, the general atmosphere was a mixture of excitement and anxiety. the excitement from having the opportunity to learn from one fo the largest banks in the world, yet anxious because of the virtual nature. given the spring insight programme was conducted virtually, the engagement and networking opportunities were limited so perhaps it would be more difficult to gauge the atmosphere. however, the attendees created a WhatsApp group chat and the general atmosphere was excitement and anxiety in the groupchat.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • the spring insight programme at jp morgan was only a week-long programme so I didn't necessarily expect to understand to a significant expect what it would be like to have a full-time role with the company. however, the programme was still somewhat true to its name - it provided an insight. this was mainly through the fitch learning sessions in which the teacher described how the line of business functions. also, the panel discussions at the end when employees spoke about their roles helped to understand their day to day endeavours. I feel like having a buddy//mentor every week would've definitely helped get a larger insight into full-time roles.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • During the spring insight programme at jp morgan, most of the sessions were learning about what the specific divisions entail (namely asset management, wealth management investment banking, markets, sales and trading). However, during some panel discussions, we got the opportunity to hear from employees to learn more about their roles and what it is like to work at jp morgan. however, we only really heard about the culture when an attendee asked a question about it. if we had more intimate conversations with employees, perhaps through buddies, we'd be freer to ask deeper questions to understand the culture

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • the fact i applied for the jp morgan spring insight programme showed I had some interest in investment banking, however, this is a very broad and varying industry that has many roles and opportunities within it. the spring into jp morgan for finance and non finance programmes are general programmes rather than division-specific. this means we learnt what each part of the company entails (namely AM and WM, IBD, markets, sales and trading etc). This teaching of each division, gave a deeper insight, also the panel discussions helped discover the day to day endeavours. this helped me decide which division best suited me.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • During the spring insight programme at jp morgan, the main activity each day was a masterclass session with fitch learning. this was mostly attendees listening to the teacher and typing questions into a chat box - very limited engagement and networking opportunities with other attendees. Similarly, during the panel discussions and keynote speeches, it was simply attendees listening to a speaker and typing questions into a chat box. the networking opportunities were limited as we didn't need our cameras nor our microphones on. to network, i took note of the panellist's names and reached out to them after the programme.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 1/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • During the jp morgan spring insight programme, we had panel discussions with employees representing various lines of businesses. These panellists described their day to day endeavours. attendees had the opportunities to as questions, many of which were about work-life balance. we found out that jp morgan has sporting groups/ clubs that play against offices from other cities and countries. also, there are business resource groups that have networking events. employees also describe some of their hobbies that they do during the weekends, in addition, there is an on site gym that employees can use.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • overall, I found the spring night programme at jp morgan, true to its name - very insightful. as a student interested in investment banking, this was an opportunity to learn more about each division of the bank and what they entail (namely AM and WM, investment banking, markets (incl. DCM, ECM, etc), sales and trading). It was great to get an understanding of what analysts and employees day to day endeavours in these roles look like. also, it was good to understand which skills are needed to the various divisions and figure out which one suits me best. therefore I would recommend this to a friend to gain an insight into each division and narrow which one would suit them best.
