The Role
The internship program was very enjoyable and rewarding. The whole program was very structured, and at all stages, there was a huge amount of support available. The HR team were great and set up lots of events for the interns, whilst still allowing free time for networking and project work. The events, such as senior speaker events including a session with Jamie Dimon, were exciting and one of the highlights of the program. Overall, everything was perfect.
I felt like a valued member of the team from day one. As interns, we were treated as employers of the company but at the same time, we got the opportunity to ask as many questions as we wanted. This allowed us to further our understanding, and learn as much as we can. Everyone I reached out to network with was very helpful and very friendly, and every single person agreed to meet up with me to talk about their career/tips etc.
We had a catch-up with our project advisor every morning which meant that we started the day off by reflecting on the day before, and together we planned the events for that day. We worked together to discuss deadlines, and set a plan of action to ensure that our work would be done on time. We also met our managers 1-2 times a week; and they supported us by answering any questions we had and also by pointing us in the right direction.
We had enough things to do to fill the days, but at the same time we had enough free time to do other work related things. It was up to us how we used this free time - we could network with other employees and interns, or we could do training sessions online or we could carry on with project work. This meant we had a great balance - we did a lot of work but also other things that allowed us to develop too.
We worked on hypothetical case studies which was understandable given the circumstances. These projects were enjoyable, and allowed us to really build on our team work, communication and leadership skills. Whilst the outcome of the project did not directly impact J.P. Morgan, we did have the opportunity to help a charity organisation. This was very rewarding, and it was great to be able to help them and come up with ideas that they might implement.
The internship program allowed so much development in terms of our personal skills, but also technical knowledge. By working in a group with the other interns, I developed my teamwork and communication skills. By completing the projects by the deadline, I developed time management and project management skills. I learnt a lot by talking to senior employees and getting tips from them. This really allowed me to develop my interpersonal skills. Also, the excel training was great and will be very valuable.
The Company
This is not applicable as due to covid, we were not in the office. However, from meeting employees, other grads, and the HR team (virtually on zoom), I could tell that everyone who works at the firm is so friendly and genuinely happy to help at all times. This means that in an office environment, it would be great to work around these people. Also, everyone was very enthusiastic and welcoming, which made it easy to fit in.
From the beginning, we were invited to many events throughout the program. These events included senior speaker events (such as with the CEO, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]) to social events with the other interns and grads, and training sessions. These were all sent as calendar invites on outlook, which made it easy to keep up with our schedules. Aside from setting up events, HR also had drop in hours at which point we could speak to them about anything.
J.P. Morgan invest hugely into the personal training and development of interns. The sessions they ran with professionals were great - it was so clear and easy to understand and follow along. After the sessions, we felt a lot more comfortable with excel and ready to utilise this when working on the projects. As well as this; there were many training programs on the learning website which we could take advantage of. These all added to our development.

I am very lucky to have been given an offer to join the graduate scheme. I am very excited to join it, and glad that all the hard work has paid off. J.P. Morgan is such a great company to work for, with many opportunities to develop and further our career here. The graduate scheme is also very exciting, especially as it includes doing the CIMA qualification which will allow us to be certified as a chartered management accountant.
The Culture
There were a few (virtual) social events. These were very enjoyable, and allowed us to get to know the interns away from the work side. It was great to meet them almost weekly as the program went along, and there was a great relationship with them - it was not competitive at all. Everyone got along great, and helped each other whenever possible. Social events with previous grads were also enjoyable and allowed us to ask questions in a less formal setting.
Not applicable as it was virtual. However, the cost of renting in London would be quite expensive however J.P. Morgan do provide a relocation bonus to help with this cost. It could be cheaper to rent outside of Zone 1-2, and commute in. As for socialising, London is generally expensive especially Canary Wharf, however if you go to other places in London, then there are some very affordable restaurants and things to do to socialise.
London is great for socialising. Canary Wharf has a lot of places to socialise, including bars and restaurants. As it was virtual, we did not get to see the highlight in person but London has lots of different things to cater for everyone. There is a huge range of restaurants and bars, and other fun things to do too with friends. Canary Wharf is also very close to other places in London such as the O2.
Yes; but they were done virtually this summer. There were lots of opportunities to get involved with after work. Amongst the interns, there were many social events. With the grads already on the grad programs, there were many opportunities to meet them in groups and ask them questions. There were also societies to get involved with and attend (virtual) events to hear more from them and also professional speakers they might hire to talk at their events. These were all enjoyable.
