    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • The experience was extremely useful in gaining further insight into the financial sector and the roles within this industry. The experience allowed me to develop my current skills, whilst learning new ones. I particularly found the opportunity to meet fellow interns and work with them for a group presentation enjoyable. On top of this the experience allowed me to meet different people across the firm and ask any questions that I had about the roles or the firm.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Despite the internship been virtual, throughout the experience I felt valued and welcomed. I felt comfortable to speak and present my ideas and felt as though these were taken on board and contributed. During the experience I was given plenty of opportunities to be myself and provide my own views on a range of different things. This was also evident when we worked as part of a group to present our ideas on the solution of a problem.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • Throughout the experience there was guidance and support available at all times. There was always opportunities to ask questions about anything that you were unsure of. In particular one session was a meeting with a current trainee, this was a fantastic chance to ask as many questions as possible and gain a greater understanding of what life at the firm is like. At all times I knew who I needed to ask if i needed help or was unsure about anything.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The internship gave me the opportunity to build and expand upon current skills, whilst also developing new ones. The skills and information received during the experience will help massively not only in my completing my degree but in many more life experiences. On top of this during the experience I also got to learn more about the technical side of the tax roles that I had applied for, this has given me much greater confidence that it is a role that suits me and something I want to pursue as a career.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • Despite the internship having to go virtual, it was extremely well run and organised throughout. Prior to the internship starting and the decision to move it online we had regular updates from the BDO Early in Career team to make sure we knew what was happening. Throughout the experience all of the sessions were well organised and structured which meant you could get the best possible experience from each of the sessions. The week ran as smoothly as I would have expected an in person week to run.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • The atmosphere throughout the internship was excellent, everyone member of staff that delivered a session or that I spoke to was extremely friendly and welcoming. Despite it been online there were great opportunities to meet and get to know the other interns throughout and this provided a very enjoyable working atmosphere, particularly during the group work. Everyone involved within the week optimised BDO's values and created a welcoming and inclusive environment, despite the fact it was virtual.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm provided a great detail of personal training and development during the virtual experience. There were sessions on personal branding, networking and tax specific training. The tax training in particular was a brilliant opportunity to learn and understand more about the stream that I wanted to go into. There was a large range of areas covered and explained, highlighting many areas that I previously did not know about. Overall the experience greatly helped my personal development and the training allowed me to expand upon my knowledge.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Although the experience was virtual, it provided me with a good understanding as to what it would be like to work for the firm full time. There were many talks explain the culture and way in which BDO operates, which gave a very good insight into what the experience would be like within a full time role. There were sessions that explained in great detail the training and opportunities you would be offered as part of a graduate role.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The experience provided a great insight and understanding around the culture of BDO. The values and the culture were at the forefront of everything that was done and it was emphasised hoe important these are. In particular the 'Be Yourself' culture this was very good in demonstrating how everyone from any background is welcomed and provide contributions in equal ways. This allowed me to feel very comfortable in sharing what I actually thought about things without worrying.
