The Role
It was very full on but very enjoyable.
The people in my department and my supervisor were very welcoming and encouraging.
My supervisor was superb. She took the time to explain her work and ensured that I had a wide variety of tasks to get on with.
Very very busy and working long hours.
The work was all real trainee work and had a realistic level of responsibility. Under supervision I drafted contracts, documents and client letters and was given research tasks that had an actual bearing on my supervisor's work. I was also given responsibility of hand delivering a contract to a senior client.
It was extremely useful to gain an understanding of the practicalities of law rather than just the theory. The skill I learned will help me in my next year of study.
The Company
It was a very jovial, good-natured department although it was also incredibly busy so people were under-pressure.
Considering it was the first year they had done a 1 week Easter vac scheme, the organisation was good. The project we were given to complete during the vacation scheme could have been organised better.
We were given training in legal research skills, which I have found useful in my studies. We were also given training in their I.T. systems.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
It is a really good firm and they try to keep on a high number of their trainees through qualification.
The Culture
Because the scheme was so short (1 week) we didn't get to know each other that much.
Central London prices, so quite expensive.
We didn't go clubbing but central London certainly has many clubs of all shapes and sizes.
Some of the Vac-Schemers got involved with football. There probably are more opportunities to get involved with the firm's activities on the longer summer schemes.
