The Role
My placement at Tech Data was very enjoyable as the work was challenging but rewarding. Everyone was super friendly and really helped me settle in.
My team was fantastic, it was really diverse and had a great blend of ages. There was a really strong team mentality and everyone respected each other for the role they did! It really was like a family!
I was given a lot of support and guidance over the year. I had regular meetings with my manager to discuss my performance as well as areas I wanted to improve to ensure the placement was beneficial e.g. I moved roles within the year so I could learn about the AS side of the business
I was extremely busy however this was mainly due to Brexit and Covid-19. Although I was busy my team offered me plenty of support so I was never overwhelmed. I was also offered regular training opportunities which ensured I was able to get all my work done efficiently. This meant as my placement continued my workload got easier and easier to manage.
I was actually surprised prised with the responsibility I was given. From the moment I started I was treated like an employee not a student. This meant I was responsible for my own vendors and had a 100k Delegation of Authority. Although I was obviously supported I was expected to work independently and this in itself was a big responsibility.
I am a Business management student so the opportunity to see how a business conducts itself every day was a fascinating opportunity to see the theory I had learnt in practice. Additionally, my placement gave me a chance to develop key professional skills such as teamwork, communication and resilience. My placement at Tech Data has provided me with invaluable experiences for when I embark on my next career challenge
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great. It was a really fun environment. People are really friendly and always up for a chat.
It was relatively seamless with training already organised for me and then gradual reviews to see how I was progressing.
The company gave me plenty of opportunities to develop myself personally. Admittedly I had to push fo some opportunities but once I asked for them Tech Data were very receptive.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Although I enjoyed my placement and really appreciated the opportunities Tech Data provided me, I am currently not considering future employment with them. This is due to my placement role no longer being available and personally wanting to pursue different challenges.
The Culture
Yes! There were a lot of placement student and a lot of the full time staff are of similar age. We had regular nights out :)
I lived at home but the general area is quite expensive to live. It is definitely do able with house sharing though!
The Nightlife is okay... but with London and Reading close there is always something to do. Plenty of good pubs in the area!
They have a social club that provided social opportunities e.g. go-karting
