The Role
The experience was enjoyable even while taking into account that it had to be converted to a fully virtual format.
My team were very supportive - this includes fellow interns, those on the grad programme, other associates, my manager, and their manager.
Manager took the time to keep in touch with us despite being clearly very busy. Others were available to contact: buddy on the grad programme, project advisors.
Some days were fairly extended (up to 7pm) but it was up to each intern to manage their time as the virtual format did not require us to be present at all times. Other days were fairly relaxed with some training and brainstorming.
Full responsibility, but not in the usual sense. Groups of interns created and implemented their own projects after being given some guidance, while having full control over all aspects. No actual "day-to-day" relating to the business.
Skills used during the intern project are directly in line with degree project, but mostly chosen by group of interns you're working with. InsideSherpa had potential but the challenges given were either holding your hand or too advanced, with no real midpoint.
The Company
Virtual setting. Vibe was relaxed as people were at home.
Announcement to fully virtual was delayed until very late (April / May?) so it was likely not as thought out as the in-person internship. But still an adequate way to salvage 5 weeks of work for social good projects, showing that the company is dedicated to altruistic / charitable causes.
Some opportunities for personal development but again with such a short duration most of these were compulsory e-learning or 1-hour webinars about "how to be productive from home". Lecture on agile could have been substituted by a youtube video.
Financial Bonus
Working from home
Exciting, with clear career progression path. Would consider working with this company again.
The Culture
Group was very laid-back and got along well - this could have either been luck on our part or a byproduct of their selection process.
Virtual - N/A
Virtual - N/A. Got to have drinks after work regardless.
Yes. Business resource groups, interest groups, volunteering and social good projects.
