    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was in the utilites sector for my placement year and although I didn't know much about it when I started, I learnt a huge amount and had a very enjoyable year with a great team. You do have a fair amount of responsibility but you are able to get out of the office and gain hands on experience.

  • I felt that I was a very valued member of the team, we would all work together and if ever I was unsure on anything, I always felt I could ask for help.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was always supportive and understood that I didn't know much about utilities before joining, and ensured the time was taken to make sure I was comfortable and confident with what I was doing.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy which meant the day went quickly, but still had a good work/life balance, being able to leave work at a sensible time every day.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt I had the right amount of responsibility for a placement student, which increased slowly throughout the year when I understood exactly what was to be done.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a variety of skills on placement, both technical skills but also in regard to confidence, being able to talk to a variety of people, hold meetings and be confident when doing so. The placement helped me throughout my last year of University as well as in a graduate role.
