The Role
I was in the utilites sector for my placement year and although I didn't know much about it when I started, I learnt a huge amount and had a very enjoyable year with a great team. You do have a fair amount of responsibility but you are able to get out of the office and gain hands on experience.
I felt that I was a very valued member of the team, we would all work together and if ever I was unsure on anything, I always felt I could ask for help.
My line manager was always supportive and understood that I didn't know much about utilities before joining, and ensured the time was taken to make sure I was comfortable and confident with what I was doing.
I was busy which meant the day went quickly, but still had a good work/life balance, being able to leave work at a sensible time every day.
I felt I had the right amount of responsibility for a placement student, which increased slowly throughout the year when I understood exactly what was to be done.
I learnt a variety of skills on placement, both technical skills but also in regard to confidence, being able to talk to a variety of people, hold meetings and be confident when doing so. The placement helped me throughout my last year of University as well as in a graduate role.
The Company
Good atmosphere but a quiet environment.
Very well organised and ran very professionally.
Fisher German start you off with the APC process which is needed to become a chartered surveyor, as well as funding a range of CPD, they are a very generous firm.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I am now a graduate at Fisher German after I was offered a job due to my placement year.
The Culture
Very good social scene, we had summer socials and a Christmas party with our Region, we also had a range of company events throughout the year which meant you were able to meet a wide range of colleagues.
I was able to live at home and the social life was great.
I worked in Banbury so there was a good nightlife which enabled me to do everything I wanted to.
We did the three peaks challenge and had team walks frequently.
